Bauer X:60 vs CCM U+07

Recommended Posts

I can get a great deal on a pair of X:60's from my LHS. (Usually $AU430, now $AU289

I have tried on X:15's, (7.5EE) and they felt great on both feet, and suited my width and arch better than the U+07's. Yet to try the X:60's, but my LHS charges $50 for fitting, so I want to ask a few questions before trying on the X:60's...

I am currently in U+07's (7.5D). Have been in them for a year.

I really like the stiffness and performance of the U+07's, however:

The U+07's don't fit me well, they are a bit narrow. My right forefoot is particularly badly cramped. One of the boots is a bit wonky: the boot was a bit mal-aligned/assymetrical during stitching, and the holder was mounted slightly crooked. I have just put up with it till now. (made the mistake of buying skates online)

Can I expect similar stiffness of the X:60's compared to the U+07?

Similar performance compared to U+07?

I have heard and seen creasing problems in X:40's, is this a problem in X:60's? (I'm light: 170 lb's or 76 kg, 5'9")

Durability for the off the shelf retail version?

Thanks guys,

Hockeyaussie.

$50 bucks for a fit? That is just plain robbery. But, being in Australia where I'm sure hockey is a minority there, they can get away with it. Riots would be had here in North america.

Not really. Maybe in your area yes but when you look at it, many people not in na get their gear other places and not lhs, so that's why they'd charge that fee. If they dint, people would take that info for free and most likely buy elsewhere, thus screwing the lhs.

X60 is going to be lighter and personally more durable. Slightly more stiffer aswell. Overall a much better skate then the 40s tobe heard bad about and those ccms

Sounds like your current skates are not right for you, poor fit and some pretty poor quality control on your particular pair's skate construction too. If the wide X15s fit you great, the wide X60s probably will too, the fit on the Vapor skates is fairly similar up and down the line. I assume your LHS only charges you that $50 for a fitting if you don't end up buying? If you need new skates regardless, and that's the only shop around, may as well go for it. Don't just try on the X60s though, even though they're currently a great deal because the APX skates are just coming out, if a different skate in your price range fits you better, that's what you should go with, fit trumps everything else. And before starting your fitting I'd personally make sure the shop has the X60s in a 7.5EE (and a few sizes around there too, in case you can actually get into a smaller skate), when skates are on clearance like this shops often have a more limited range of sizes and widths, it'd suck to pay that fitting fee only to find out that they don't have the right size/width for you.

ponder, that sounds like good advice. Yes, your assumption is right, they refund the $50 if you buy a pair of skates, so yeah good idea to check they have other similar sizes in stock. The LHS here have really been p*ssed with people trying in the shop, then ordering online, so I understand their fee. I suspect they would waive that fee for good customers anyway. They had my size in stock a few days ago, so I may call them tomorrow... My existing skates are just useable, however they are far from ideal... a decision has to be made!

Would still like to hear some more comments from anyone who has used the retail X60's.

Cheers!

Edit: I stuffed up... it was the One 60 on sale, not the X60. Only 1.5 hours left of the sale, I don't have time to research the One60... at least not before the end of the sale. Thanks for the info anyway.

Mind if I ask which LHS you're going to?

If you can get X60s for $289 AUD that's a steal! Considering most places still have them for $900+
