Close one but Canada couldn't make the comeback complete. Down by 3 goals, managed to tie the game at 4-4. Malcolm Subban, little brother of PK, in goal for Canada can't stop the sharp angle shot of the post by Ryan Biggs. Canada plays for Bronze and the USA goes for the Gold/

The US has a pretty solid stranglehold on everything below the U20 level.

U18s- 3-peat gold

World Junior A challenge- 3-peat gold

World U17 Hockey Challenge is a bit more even, the US has taken gold 3 and silver 3 in the last 9 years of the tourney

I couldn't find any stats on the U16 stuff. That one may be even as well.

But here's the question. Why does the US dominate at the U18 level and below, but comes up Gold once every half decade at the U20? My opinion, and it's the one that USA Hockey and the NCAA doesn't like. The CHL is a way better developmental path.

You have to consider that the USA U17 and U18 World teams are put together mostly with kids that play together all year on the NTDP teams... while the Canadian teams are assembled from kids playing on different teams in the CHL. That's a big advantage for the US teams. At the U20 level, that advantage has disappeared as the US puts together the team the same way Canada does.

Exactly. That's why teams that are full of seniors usually do amazing, not because they're average age is older more time to develop etc, its cuz half the team has been best friends for the last four years. Applies to all sports, more people you have on one team that have played with each other for s while the better you'll be. If Canada ever gets a u18 team in chl and a u17 in like Jr a they would rape the us in these competitons
