SE16 Skates durability issues

Recommended Posts

I have had these skates since Oct '10 got them on a closeout. I am seeing Major separation near the toe box on both sides of my right skate. Has anyone else had or hear of this issue? Will crazy glue be a temporary fix on these skates until I can get new skates, I have only played 30 or so games on these skates and shouldn't have to get new ones already.

I have heard people mentioning these durability issues. I cant comment on other models, since I havent used them, but the S17s I have had no issues with. I am a relatively heavy guy at over 200lbs, and I skate 4-6 days a week.

I have heard that the s17 is much better but my foot does not fit an s17 that well, I am also over 6ft and 200 pounds as well any suggestions on a solid skate that can take a beating but still have decent performance?

Additionally, I don't really trust Easton Skates after this...I will likely go Bauer or CCM in the future. I am pretty sure the guy who sold them to me will not be able to do anything as the skates only have a 30 day warranty on the boot itself and 365 on the holder.

Thanks for the input, I will probably super glue them until I can save for new skates.....

Hey Raft, Easton here. In fact the warranty period for boot defects is 90 days. You're right, while these still appear OK for game play and glue can help keep the edge down, this wear and tear appears excessive for 30 games. Easton authorized dealers are equipped to evaluate and handle concerns such as these within the warranty period so I suggest you get in touch with the retailer. If you don't find what you need with them, you can always call the warranty department where we are happy to help.

Well Easton customer service is very solid, they contacted me via facebook and had me send in my skates and warrantied them even though these skates were well outside the warranty period. They stated that they appeared to have excessive wear and tear for 30 games of beer league hockey.

They replaced them very fast and I received Easton S17s as a replacement, I thought it was a bit odd considering the different fit of the skate compared with the SE16 but I am happy to say that after trying them on a few times the fit issues I thought were there are non-existant. I had considered selling these to get into something else but I figure if these last 8 months to a year like the last pair it will give me time to save for something else.

Kudos to Easton for helping me out!

My Custom S17's are 2 and a half years old and recently my right boot and its 'lil EASTON symbols that run down the side of the forefoot on each side have been destroyed. Now my boot has no rebound and is dead. The connection between the eyelet piece and the boot itself is starting to pull away by the looks of it. I'm a 6' 200+lbs player, playing minimum once, and maximum 6 times a week so....no surprises. I was really hoping for quite a few more years out of my customs but....meh. They were great boots while they lasted. Welcome Easton, good to hear 'bout the customer service. Thinkin' bout EQ50's as my next skate. Hoping the durability on them(EQ50's) is better. To that point, have heard nothing but good things about these skating shoe knives. Does anyone that has these have any opinions on the durability of them? Wonder if i can get EQ50's in all white? I was super upset when i asked for all white S17's only to be told i couldn't get them, and now i see they make them. :( Sorry , I'm just sad my skates are broken. Although they are still useable, so not all is lost. Not to hijack the thread but was wondering if Easton could tell us a 'lil of what EASTON skates of the future have in store for us? Particularly the Stealth line.
