Chadd 916 Report post Posted November 13, 2004 Last I saw Canada was still around 55-60% and Quebec produced about 1/3 of those players.

Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted November 13, 2004 I think alot of players coming from Quebec tend to be star players, rather than grinders which will tend to make you think more NHLers are actually french.
Kovy_Ribs_Fedo 3 Report post Posted November 13, 2004 Kovy - that was exactly my point, the people who are in favour of seperating get the attention rather than the people who have no problems being part of Canada.Chadd is bang on. Kovy your right they booed Koivu because he is less popular, but Ribeiro is more popular because of his french heritage. Hell you guys (majority of French Hab fans) chose a guys who's produced for 1 regular season over someone who beat cancer, and has led your team for the past decade. I'm not like that. If I would choose Ribeiro before Koivu, yes...But I would give 10 Ribeiro to get a Kovalev.
Kovy_Ribs_Fedo 3 Report post Posted November 13, 2004 The one major thing I've noticed about Montreal fans is the jumping they do. They hop from scene to scene whatever they can use as leverage they will. Koivu beats Cancer, he's our idol. Koivu leading the league in scoring until he hurts his knee, he's the next Gretzky. I know my vision is a little off being a Leafs fan, but it just seems the loyalty is not there. I mean with all of their history there was talk of them going under a few years back, and they stopped selling out. Kovalev playing bad for 10 games, he's an asshole, than score 2 goals in a game and become an hero.
QandA 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 I live in a town of 8000. We have 2 high schools, a french and an english school. The french school is an AA school and we're a AA school. Although we can beat them at Basketball, we struggle to keep up at hockey. I go to the english school by the way. However, recently we played them and they we're blowin' us out again. Near the end of the third, my brother, he's a tall guy 6'5" 200 pounds, gets checked from behind. He laid there for about 10-20 seconds and he's not one to fake. He eventually got up, but when he was down, their fans we're screamin' at him making fun of him and so forth. My brother takes and gives a lot of hits but that was just wrong. I didnt like the french before but now I'm goin' to go tryout in an english town next year to leave this town. I have a lot of friends on the other team but that one guy gives them a bad reputation. As for the french vs. english, it's all in our heads. We need reasons to hate people. Certain people spoil it for the rest and give them a bad reputation. mseguin 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 I agree completely. The English vs French thing is propogated by people who want it to continue: haters on either side, the media, and politicians (i.e. PQ and BQ). We all (for some reason) need reasons to hate, whether its language, religion, colour, culture.
MDE3 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 Malheureusement , c'est bien trops vrais...... The ancient history of the French English conflict lives on in Quebec where the battle of the Plains of Abraham is still being fought....propagated for years in fact by the Catholic Church...pitting the catholics against the protestant heretics...and long controlling the politics of that province. Although the influence of the Church in Quebec is "long gone", much of the animosity which was fueled for centuries remains.... I love Canada's French heritage, although I am something of a mongrel...part Irish/ Manx/ French....without it Canada would never be the country it is....just as without the rest of the country Quebec could not survive on it's own....no matter how fervently some Quebecois believe this to be true. The fact is the English and French in Canada are married and joined at the hip in both history and culture.....and like like so many marriages, would be lost without the conflicts that keep reminding them they are still alive and different...if they were the same, the intrigue (and the passion) would be gone.... QandA 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 You guys should visit England. Their hate for the french and vice-versa ain't much better. I wonder where we got it from?
MDE3 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 You guys should visit England. Their hate for the french and vice-versa ain't much better. And it's for much the same reasons, as English Royal history and government is totally intertwined with the French for centuries....with the conflicts over the Church being at the root of the animosities. Gongshow11 1 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 I know it's sort of racist, I don't know why a lot of people in quebec are like this, but it's really stupid. I think the vote would 40-60 and not 60-40, because there are a lot of people who hate USA and the rest of the Canada because they don't speak their langage(language, it's one of the 2) or they hate them because I don't know why, I'm not this kind of person so I can't really know why. one of the dumbest things ii've ever heard. seperatists are dead in quebec, the bloc quebecois did terrible in the last election in gaining seats and what not. quebec will never seperate and if it did it would be shit as the ignorance and stupidity of the french superiors is terrible. what would you do for an army? stuff liek that makes it even dumber. personally the people in quebec that dont speak any english i have no time for. i took the time to learn their language, they should learn mine. And being that montreal is the big city in quebec, i still find it weird that people dont know english. when people say damn english let them man, their ignorance will take them down. Kovy_Ribs_Fedo 3 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 There are a lot of people who speaks both French and English in Quebec. We sure got to take the time to learn English because without this, we can't go in the US or in the rest of Canada. There are a lot of thing we can't do without English. QandA 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2004 I've been take immersion for 10 years now, and can speak and write pretty well. I live in the only town with an english name and a french name in Canada! Anyone ever realize that almost all french words all religious? Tabarnach, Calice, Criss....We had a friendship series here in NB, where we invited a team from Brockton (don't know state) here, and the teams we're mixed together and their was a Canada Team and a USA Team (both teams consisted of Canadian and American Players.) It turned out to be quite a success and their even thinking of makin' a Disney movie on it. To the point, this same team had travelled to Montreal to play a few exhibition games, when they arrived there, the bus was shaken, an American flag burnt and a bomb threat made, all in front of them. These people vowed to never come to Canada again. Luckly they we're convinced. Just an example on how one event can change a person's outlook on somethin'! That's because before it's was illegal to say those words and when some were frustrated against the religions they started to use those words.Osti, calver, etc... thejackal 46 Report post Posted November 16, 2004 On my team, if the kid I'm speaking to speaks english, then we'd be speaking english 99% of the time. Otherwise I'd speak French, but only if I have to.
