There is no drug that gets me as high as when I score a goal in a close game...

Recommended Posts

I am 39 years old. I may have experimented with a few questionable substances in my youth. There is no drug I know of that gets me high like scoring the go ahead goal in the 3rd period of a playoff game.

I can't believe how many people in life have never had that experience, or can't any more because of health or what not.

Agreed on the feeling part. And the questionable substance reference.

Unfortunately, cost is a great reason why many people will never experience this feeling. I'm not sure it is the same, but something tells me the equivalent is close (lets face it... haha not that close) to producing the same feeling in a tight-knit soccer match. And as a much lower cost sport, almost fully accessible a feeling to anyone physically healthy enough. I assume that feeling is a big reason why it is so universally appealing. Not the same as on ice though, no sir-no way.

There is no high like it (late GWG, GTG, or OT goal) that I've experienced. To me it's the teamwork aspect of it, too.

I think hitting a golf drive pure is a distant second among things that I've tried.

I truly wish I wasn't so medicated that I could feel that way again. All I feel is flatlined.

...and yes...I've scored that goal too. Maybe I should boot crack into my eyeball or something?

Overtime game winners in an important game, nothing like it. Even just playing on a team when it happens is thoroughly exhilarating. Two years ago my bantam team was at the silverstick finals in the semi-final game. We went up 3-0 in about the first two minutes and figured the game would be a total blowout, however, our goalie started letting in fluke goals and as soon as we realized that the game was still in reach they had taken a 4-3 lead in the first period. The game goes back and forth until we score to tie it up with about a minute and fourteen seconds left in regulation time. We think we're safe, making it to overtime and all that until their best player scores on a shot that should have never gone in (goalie error) with 39 seconds left. We pull out goalie and put all our best players on the ice, I get the puck back on D, skate it over the red-line, dump it in and we win the puck in the corner. We work the puck around for a little while and one of our forwards takes a shot, I charge the net along with four of our other players, the puck shoots right out to our other D-man at the point and he lines up the perfect slapshot to tie the game with 1.3 seconds left on the clock. Game goes into overtime and we're only playing our top two lines and I'll tell you, I don't think I've ever worked as hard for a win as I did in that game in overtime. We finally end up winning about four minutes into overtime, such a rush, even the tournament officials said it was one of the best games of minor hockey that they had ever seen. Our coach (who played high level minor hockey as well as WHL) to this day still says he has seen nothing like that game. By far the most exhilarating and nerve-wracking game I've ever played in or watched.
