replacing tongues...

Recommended Posts

alright, first off... the total one's are awesome skates, but the tongue thing is such a gimmick. i've tried all three stiffness inserts, and honestly, i can't feel a difference. also, the button snap thing broke off on both tongues (for anyone who owns these, be careful when lacing up, if you lace up too tight, the button snaps). no wonder bauer decided to NOT go with that for the apx's.

with that said, i was looking to replace the tongues with either the reebok 11k tongue or easton eq40 tongue. can lhs' replace them, or can i do it myself... i ask because i've never replaced the tongue before...

lastly, if anyone has either of those tongues available, please let me know... i don't want to go out and buy a whole skate for just the tongue (can i get just the tongues from manufacturers?)

Sorry for the re-post. Consider the supreme felt or even supreme double felt if you have narrow or regular volume feet. My store has had great feedback from both ice and inline players with these tongues installed

You can just take your skates to a cobbler, lhs, or shoe repair guy. I wouldnt do them yourself unless you have a sewing awl and major skills.

Ive replaced the tongues on my grafs. you use a lock stitch awl.you can buy them at any local arts and craftstore. they use sewing awls for leather goods.

how hard was it to do and how long did it take? Also would you be willing to walk me through the process?

If you are handy with tools it shouldnt be hard. If the awl comes with directions on how to use it and you understand what they are explaining, you could do it. you might want to google..how to use a lock stitch awl. one video showed someone fixing goalie pads. you might want to check that out before you want to do it yourself.
