sharks25 9 Report post Posted July 10, 2011 I believe they have a low kickpoint. Unlike the TO's mid kickpoint.
Scotty 8 Report post Posted July 10, 2011 Many describe Base's sticks as a mix between an Easton and Warrior, which entirely makes sense seeing as one of their people running the company came from previously working high up with Easton and Warrior.
ponder 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2011 Haven't owned a totalone, but I have owned a one95 and a Base, so close enough IMO. My review will be Base vs. one95, you can make your own judgements about how close the one95 is to the TO, I've heard they're fairly similar.I preferred the one95 performance-wise, mostly for the much better feel in the blade. I actually started liking the Base a lot more after I damaged the blade, chiseled it out, turned it into a tapered shaft, and put in a replacement blade (currently using it with an X60 blade). Both sticks shot equally well for snappers IMO, but I liked the one95 better for slappers, it was a bit stiffer and generally felt more "true to flex rating," the Base sticks seem to be about as whippy as it gets (the one95 was a 77 flex, the Base a 75). Honestly I didn't feel that the Base was a "lower kick" stick, the one95 was marketed as a mid-kick (like the totalone), but it has quite the taper to it, and IMO kicks pretty low regardless, I personally think this is just a marketing ploy to differentiate it from the X60, the one95 (and I'm assuming the TO as well) kicks similarly to many low kick sticks. My Base stick is super durable though, has taken a crazy number of hacks and is still going strong (has a kevlar type wrap, which I think helps), and the blade only took damage from an accumulation of skate cuts from people stepping on it (I'm quite active with my stick on d, this is a common problem for me). One95s are considered very durable sticks in general though, so me breaking mine quickly was probably just bad luck.Overall, two good sticks, both similarly light and balanced, and both great for snap shots. My Base has been much more durable for me (though obviously you can't take too much out of using just one stick of each), but I preferred my one95 for slappers, and liked the puck feel a lot more. I do like how Base offers such a range of lies for many of their curves, probably their biggest advantage, and they are a fairly high end stick for the price (at least in Canada, where sticks cost more), but IMO the one95 performed significantly better. sharks25 9 Report post Posted July 10, 2011 My TO kicks like a mid kick. I haven't used my one95 on the ice yet though so I can't really say how that one kicks.
ibeck 38 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 I've used both. In the long run the T1 will out perform the Base. My Base broke down after a couple weeks, just became to whippy and passes were bouncing off the blade.
