Skates for Small, Flat, Wide Feet

Recommended Posts

For my whole life I've had issues with skates. I'm unable to tie my skates tight because it makes my feet hurt too much, especially on the instep. Without being able to tie my skates tight, I've always had issues skating. Can someone please suggest skates for my wide, flat feet? Money is not too much of an issue as I just want to solve my skate issue once and for all.

if money is no issue just go custom, basically can't screw that up

He may not, but if you don't get a properly trained fitter to assist you... we're talking minute measurements that add up to a big fit difference, it isn't fool proof.

Also check out Easton s12/s17's. One of the widest fitting skates in the toe box I've tried on even in the regular widths. It also has the flattest arch of anything I've tried on.

I'm a size 6E in Reebok 10k skates (with my right foot probably closer to a 5.5/5.75), and I'm totally flat-footed. I tried on S17's and they hurt my feet to no end. The 10k's fit beautifully.

One word and one word ONLY customs. I am 5' 11" tall and weigh 190lbs and I have feet shorter than your sister. Mine are like Fred Flintstone feet, short, wide, a mobile arch, high volume and broke one of them as paratrooper now it's a 1/2 size longer and has a bulbous buildup. I actually wound up taking a few years off due to the pain caused by my skates. In fact had my son not started playing I may never have gotten back into hockey. The first pair of skates I had since I was 12 that did not cause me moderate to severe pain would be my Kor Shift. When I got back into hockey I was living in Florida and my old CCM Tacks were causing me pretty severe pain. Skate selection in Florida can be limited, especially in size super small, super wide & high volume. I did a lot of research online, especially here at Modsquad. Unfortunately JR was living in Michigan at the time. I would look on eBay for a pair of skates that had been heavily used, in my size and going for next to nothing. Pretty much with the intention of locating a skate that would fit. Some fit better than others but they all hurt my feet. When KOR came out with the Shift 2s I was able to pick up a pair of Shift 1s and risk it. For the first time since I was 12 I was able to skate pretty much pain free. After they went out of business I got a pair of Shift 2s. As they began to show there wear I knew I needed a solution. Fortunately for me JR had moved back to town and agreed to see me. Let's say my feet are special. JR spent several hours with me. We finally settled on a pair of TotalOnes, in a Junior size, 1/2 a size difference in the 2skates, A heel, EEE width, custom punch, oversize toe caps, extra material on the sides. Those are just the options for fit and don't include personal customization. They still needed a couple of bakings and additional punching out. Now I have a number and next time I need new skates I just have to go to a Bauer retailer give him my number and I can get the same fit.

There is simply NO off the shelf retail skate that will ever fit my feet.

I have the same feet, except I do have a bit of an arch that doesn't collapse. I have tried every skate out there since I started and found only two retail models that fit almost okay:

Bauer Flexlites (still a bit narrow for me on the mid and fore foot, toe box is narrowish, soft skate)

Graf (many different models, try one with a number that ends with 9 i.e. 709)

My last retail skate was the Flexlite, skated n them for a year until the beginning of this year, they just wore out. I now have custom skates made from me, a U+CL, EQ50 and Total One. With all the options available, you can get a perfect fitting skate now. I skate on the Total One right now, will work in my EQ50's soon. Even though the skate are custom, I still had to do an hour of custom punching and heat molding to get them perfect.

Go custom and get a good skate fitter to finish off the fitting. You'll never regret it.

RBK might be a good place to start

I've got wide feet, and RBK pumps have done well for me. I also use wax laces which allows for me to leave the lower part of the lace loose while I tighten the top 5 loops tightly. Also, I pump them up bigtime. For years I was pumping them like 12 times. Then, I went a little crazy one day and pumped them 50 times per side. I felt like I was skating on balloons! It was good. Now I pump them up that much every time.

Agreed with the_sock, custom skates are just that, a completely custom fit with extra padding at needed areas, expansion etc. If you want the X:60s which are iirc one of if not the cheapest top level skate currently avalable for custom, you should hurry up as they have limited stock.

Your Pumps are going to explode, dutchman...
