Reebok. Ice vs roller

Recommended Posts

After being able to finally suck it up and admit that my EE mission lieutenants are just to narrow ive figured i should try some RBKs. But im a bigger guy so im trying to find the stiffest most durable reebok skate possible. Even if it means doing an ice to inline swap. So im looking at these two. 10k inline 10k ice Can anyone tell me the differences between the two?

The outer shells are different materials, but the fit should be the same. Wouldnt the 11k ice be stiffer than the 10k ice? You could always order a custom 11k or CCM CL without the holder and add extra stiffness.

Are you able to wait a bit? The upcoming 11k's from Reebok are going to be phenomenal. Had a chance to skate on them at JO's last week, they felt great before being baked, I can imagine what they'd be like after forming to my foot. It is pretty much just the 11k ice boot with a Hum'er chassis on.

Shark25: how much would a pair of customs run me without a chassis. Im on a budget so thats the only reason im looking at 10k.

invert: The 11ks for roller hockey? when are they coming out and where can i find info on it

General question, is the pump a weak point of these skates at all? Baking a skate with an airbag in it and taking impacts seems like it could be bad.

I broke a pump when I was skating on Reeboks. Im not sure what the price of a custom would be, you may want to talk to your lhs. I doubt that it would be less than a pair of 10ks though.

Reebok skates aren't really known for durability FYI.

I have heard that, but I had some CCM V08's that lasted me a year and a half my next 4 pairs of skates with mission haven't even lasted the warranty time. the last pair of t9's I used lasted 3 weeks before the outsole was completely cracked (which has been the issue with all of the mission skates) the CCM's lasted a year and a half before I pulled the rivets straight through the bottom of the boot

I'm kind of annoyed by this comment on the skates in that interview:

"HWB: Will be boots be identical to the ice boots, or will there be changes specific to roller? If so, what changes?

MG: We use the same boot technologies, including:

The pump

Lacelock

Embedded composite zone

Lightweight composite outsole"

He doesn't answer whether it's identical, and just dodges it by listing what characteristics are the same. Those features are found on every reebok skate down to the 6k, the differences being in the composite used and the construction.

I wish companies would just own up and admit "Yeah, our 11k inline is pretty much the 10k ice."

You didn't mention that directly following your quote they did state what the technologies are that are specific to their Inline products:

However, these technologies are specific to Inline skates:

- Reinforced ankle support for longer boot durability.

- Vamping zone to protect the quarter package from abrasion.

- Ventilated toe cap

But you are correct to a degree, they certainly didn't say much about the boot itself.

I have a pair of RBK 8k inlines and I have been quite disappointed with the overall quality of the boot.

They have not really held up well over the course of one inline season. I have had them for just over twelve months. Problem areas for me have been:

All of the eyelets have rusted quite quickly (quicker than any other skates).

The boot is starting to come away from the toe cap on the left skate.

At the top of the boot to the rear of the skate it is staring to rip (I have seen this on many skates before).

Overall if RBK used the same boots as they do for ice I would be sold. All they would need is some additional protection in certain areas that suffer heavy in inline.

Unless RBK use identical boots for ice and inline I dont think I will buy another pair of RBK inlines.

Start_today you are right, Reebok use the same boot for ice & roller

but here is some addition to the roller boot

However, these technologies are specific to Inline skates

Reinforced ankle support for longer boot durability

Vamping zone to protect the quarter package from abrasion

Ventilated toe cap

Roller player will be please by the addition of a Stiffer ankle support
