CCM vs Easton skate fit question.

Recommended Posts

Right now I have Bauer One80 7D skates which are slightly too narrow in the middle of my foot, cramped toebox (the sides) and don't have enough volume on the top of my foot. I'm in the market for a new pair of skates since my feet are getting torn up by the ill-fitting skates and since I can't actually tie them tight without my feet falling asleep.

My feet:

- Have somewhat high arches, not flat.

- Bulge out at the top, causing volume problems where the laces lay across.

- Flare out quite a bit towards the toes like a \/ shape. Need wide toe box.

- Have average heel width I'd assume.

Now that said, I've tried on CCM U+12/10 skates in 7D, 6.5E and 7E. The 7D was ok length and volume wise but a little cramped on the sides. The 6.5E was a bit tight all around. The 7E's seemed perfect except for they may have had very slightly too much room length-wise at my toes. Not terrible though. This was all out of the box fit, no baking.

Now for the questions: How much room would I gain when baking CCM's with their foam?

Also, how do Easton EQ40's fit compared to those CCM's? Do they seem like they'd fit my foot at all? Mainly looking for similar volume and a wide toebox/forefoot. Also looking for help on what size to get if I were to try them. I've heard half size up from most brands?

I don't mind ordering a few pairs at once through IW and using their skate return policy. I just want to find skates that fit right since I'm on them all the time and it's just not working out too well with what I have.

thanks - Kevin

It's hard for us to help you with fit because it is your call. Did you try Stealth? They generally have a wider forefoot.

7E's and 7Ds should be same length wise, dunno why you're noticing different; maybe your heel isn't as locked in with the Es and is shifting your foot around.

Try Superfeet to maintain your arch.

I know what you mean. I was more asking opinions on the general fit of Eastons as I don't know much about them. And nobody around here carries Easton so I haven't tried them, no. Any idea on their volume?

Also, the 7D/7E difference, to be honest I actually didn't spend a whole lot of time in the 7D's because they were way too tight on the sides, so the length is probably the same. I'll definitely get Superfeet for whichever skate I choose.

And I've heard 709's would be my fit but nowhere around here has them. I'll look into them. Thanks.

i've heard that graf 709 have a wide heel. so if you have an average/medium heel you won't get good heel lock in 709's...

I concurr with some of the other members and say try the Graf 709's. If you don't fancy Grafs then try fitting a Bauer One 80 in an E or EE width. You can also try the E or EE in a CCM, Reebok or Easton Stealth skates. Please note the Eastons may be slightly narrower at the toe area than the CCM or Reebok.

This was 100% true for me, I could barely get my feet in the Eastons and the Rbk's I bought fit beautifully.

Generally the Stealth (S17) skates sound like a good suggestion for these fit requirements, especially for a “V” shape and the need for a wider ball/toebox. Suggested sizing is 1.5 sizes smaller than your shoe size..

The EQ40’s have fairly significant toebox volume in terms of a more squared shape with more height, but the skate is more narrow through the mid-foot. Suggested sizing is 1.5-2 sizes smaller than your shoe size since they run just a little bigger than Stealth. Sounds like you’re between a D and EE width, but likely tending towards the EE. However the Fusion Foam 2.0 quarter material is very reactive to heat and you can customize any areas you feel pressure pretty easily.

Good luck and hope this helps a little.

I have never skated on CCMs but I just got a pair of EQ40s and retired my RBKs. I have tons of toe room in my 40s. They tend to be snug across the arch and heel cup. I like the fit, but that's just me. In fact, I am a little wary about the amount of space in the toe, but it has posed no problems. BTW - I am a 10.5 US shoe, skated in a 9.5 RBK and now have an 8.5D EQ40.

I ended up going with the CCM U+12's and they fit like a dream so far. Thanks for all the replies.

I got 7.0 E. The toe box barely brushes the sides and no irritation so far. It's definitely wide enough while still being the correct length. I am running into a little bit of lace bite but it's not bad yet.
