Eagle Talon Glove

Recommended Posts

Purchased a pair of eagle talon gloves from my LHS 2 wks. ago and as of 7/27/11, have 4 games in them.

Last pr. were CCM 4roll pros. Palms were shot, fore finger stitching was coming out and were generally crusty.

One word: Wow!

The fit is much more specific to my hand especially in the palm and mid-hand area. No slippage and definitely a more fit-specific feel.

I usually wear a 14" mit and had to go to a 15" specifically for the finger length. Not sure if this is an Eagle thing, but was resolved by going up a size.

Not sure if the price is appropriate ($109)for a china made, mass

China made, mass produced glove, but I have no specific complaints in it's construction. Heavy stitching thread and double stitching throughout.

Logos are vinyl, not stitched as I originally thought they'd be.

Cuff length is a bit longer than my CCMs, but the cut aways and cuff shape allow for ample movement.

Protection is very good. I like the segments in the index and pinky fingers. It is separated, not adjoined like my CCMs. It seems to allow for greater mobility and flexing. Flex lock thumb is stout! ( my thumb says thank you).

Palm material seems very similar in feel to the PPFs I tried on in the store. Perhaps a bit less of an advanced material, but my brick hands can't tell the difference. Enjoying them over the leather-rawhide type material in my CCMs.

I'd buy again!

I tried these on a few weeks ago at my LHS they are more of a tapered fitting glove, felt really good to me, still not quite as comfy as my x60 pros :)

You should definitely post a review of them in the review section of the boards. Don't worry about where it was made (but obviously local is better only if you want to support local industries) but the quality shouldn't be judged using that measure. What isn't mass produced these days and at that price point, a quality glove imo.

I wouldn't say that it's a tapered glove, those would be your CL/U+ series or Vapor. More of an anatomical glove, like your Supremes or Reebok KFS.

Yeah it's MSH2 which I really like, especially at that price point. The One95s apparently lack plastic inserts, but the Talons have theirs over top of the foams; sometihng to keep in mind. Try them on and compare :)

Not bashing Overseas Made goods, but just the $139 retail $ was a bit high given other comPetitors offerings.

Yes, they are long overall, but blooming cuff makes it less noticeable.

Call it anatomical or tapered, I don't know, but not sqre like 4rolls.

not really sure how you're surmising that one. if you compare them to other brand's overseas-made, mid-high range gloves (which is the category the talon falls under) like the ccm u+12, reebok 9k kfs, bauer vapor x40, etc...they are right in line pricewise.

okay, okay....enough on the price. It is just my observation given the quality of x40s, Easton Se16s I've seen and my ccm 4rolls. MY point was they 'look' a bit cheaper materials, etc. given the $139 retail price.

If they weren't discounted, I would have looked at other gloves.

The short of it is...I like them and would buy another pair.

That wasn't the main point of my post.

Take it for what it's worth. Good grief.

Tried them on again, like them quite a bit more than the first time for some reason, definitely a nice glove and a potential future purchase. In Canada they're $129.99, and top of the line gloves from most companies are $200 - $220, so it's not a ridiculous price, fairly in line with most upper-mid-range gloves. Wish they had mesh or lycra gussets, but otherwise a nice glove. Fit wise they are nothing like a wide, traditional 4-roll style glove, they fit pretty similar to high end Bauer Supreme gloves, I wish they were more of a Vapor X60 pro fit (which is similarly snug through the fingers/upper hand, but really opens up a lot more around the wrist), but if you like the Supreme fit these seem like a great choice, and they come with the much loved MSH2 palms.

I've tried them on a few times and they are a very comfy and well made glove, but the cuff is absolutely horrid. Very narrow and sits on the wrist in a position to prevent any free movement.

Pretty sure I did a quick review on these gloves somewhere on the site but I'm very satisfied with them. Obviously for 129.99CAD they aren't going to be as well refined as Eagles' higher end offerings but I can see alot of non-eagle users liking this glove.

Do they break in at all?

I picked up a pair after trying some stickhandling and shooting motions and the cuff wasn't getting in the way too much (they won't let you bend your wrist straight down but apparently in hockey you never do that). The palms are stretched so tight though that it screws with my stickhandling. I had a pair of PPF's that did the same thing and I returned them. Everything else about the glove is sweet though.

Ugh, think they're going back. Tried and tried but they are too weird feeling. Fingers are a bit long, palms are really tight, and the cuff is just a bit too long and knocks into my Jofa elbows.

Maybe I'm finally getting to the point where I'm so picky about gear that I can stop buying new stuff :D

Looks like they're breaking into multiple models for 2012: Talon 90, 60, 50, 40. All with MSH3. Wonder if they addressed any of your concerns. Looking forward to the catalogue discussion (PPF lines are pretty spiffy looking).
