Help with Skate probem

Recommended Posts

I need the help of some skate experts. The last two pair of skates I have used Vapor XXXX and Vapor X60 after about a year my right skate seems to fit as tightly or as supportive it did when it was new. The tongue of the skate ends up with a crease where the last laces cross & tie. The tongue feels as if it is not as stiff as my left one (if that makes any sense). I end up having to keep tightning the skate during games. My X60's when new I was able to skate with the top eyelet undone, but not now. I wear a size 7EE.

I am sure I am doing something wrong when I skate, but I am not sure what. I skate about 3-4 times a week in men's leage. Would a leather tongue help in the skate instead of what come standard?, Custom skates? I put a couple of strips of tape across the crease and that helps for a few games. Any help or suggestions would appreciated.

I would think it was wear based on the side you favor. Almost everyone has a "weak" side in which they avoid really aggressive play toward and this is probably why you're seeing the results you do.

Could be that your foot has too much volume and the front part of it is jutting out of the shallow Vapor boot. That pressure could be the reason.

Did you ever replace your laces? They could be old and stringy so it could be digging into the tongue. Try a new pair or even the Elite Oval laces which are bigger

laces are replace regularly. I use graf wax laces. I tried the pencil test and found that my foot just touches the pencil at the third eyelet, but defintely touches at the fourth eyelet. If my problem is a volume issue, which skate has more volume supreme or vapor? I have tried on the old supreme line and never liked it which was why I went with the vapors

from the sounds of it your right foot is slightly (barely) larger in volume then your left. overtime a skate which is at the edge of fitting starts to become painful.

what supremes did you try on / were they properly sized?

supreme has more volume over vapors.

the last supremes I tried on were pre - vapor 10. I have a narrow heel and a fat forefoot. The vapors seemed to lock my heel in better

The Supremes only branched off in fit after the 8090 line which iirc was pre Vapor 10. Reebok also has a deep boot, but if you're coming off of Vapors, Reebok shouldn't be your next choice.
