hockeyplyr21 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2011 How do you do it? I'm getting a white pair of sprungs and wanna die them black. Ive heard something about putting them in boiling water with the die but couldn't that cause them to bend or get warped?

crispy92 14 Report post Posted September 1, 2011 Look up how to dye a lacrosse head. Its basically the same thing. Boil water put the RIT dye(fabric dye comes in powder or liquid) in boiling water mix it well and then leave the chassis in the water for a good amount of time. hockeyplyr21 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2011 Thanks. If I were to dye a pair of sprungs, would it make them weaker?
henryb 4 Report post Posted September 3, 2011 From what I understand the Manufacturer suggests that you can dye your Sprung's with no adverse effects on strength. You can even request specific colors when you order them. Mine have been dyed with a red base... With the white arms, I get that Team Canada look.
fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted September 3, 2011 Actually, you should soak your chassis/arms in water every once in a while. My backup set is perpetually in bucket of water until needed.
hockeyplyr21 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2011 Ok and when you dye them do you throw the whole chassis in or are there certain pieces that shouldn't be dyed?
henryb 4 Report post Posted September 4, 2011 You only put the plastic parts in, no nuts or bolts, and certainly not the suspension pieces (the two little pieces of red rubbery material). Also make sure everything is nice and clean. I'm not exactly sure how long to leave them in the dye solution, but over night should be good.
henryb 4 Report post Posted September 8, 2011 Learned a few things today, the hotter you get the dye/water solution, the quicker they will take the color. I was dying some Sprung rocker arms, and with the solution at room temperature, leaving them in over night, still did not get to the desired color. However, when I brought the solution to a near boiling temperature, it only took about 5 mins in the solution to achieve the deep/dark color that I wanted. Apparently, the hotter solution opens the pores (so to speak) of the material you are dying and it takes the color in much quicker!
BenderHockey 127 Report post Posted October 10, 2011 If you want them jet black, I had to add a lot of black, and a little brown to the mix. Without the brown, it had a purple-ish tint the first time.
