How long do skates last now a days?

Recommended Posts

I love the skates I have now (Bauer One100). I just want to know how long I can expect them to last.

How long do skates made today last for?

Skate about twice a week for 10 months.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Michael

You have a pretty durable skate and if you take good care of them they should last quite long at 2 times a week. Many years. I see quite a few skates come thru my shop and the ones that don't hold up well are generally 5+ a week skaters. I know a guy who has S-15's, the one many people claim is not durable, but he's had them for 4 years and they still look like new. He plays once a week. There are other variables, how hard you play, drying routine, etc.

The biggest variables IMO are how you take care of them and how hard you skate on them. I don't like to define life of the skate in terms of years, as that will very how often you skate...

With those skates, there are actually teammates here that got those, within a week of each other. They are a year apart but play the same amount in game/practice etc.

One of the kids has already gotten new skates - he had to. Crusted, shredded and falling apart at the seems. None of his skates last. The other kid however his look barely used. They've skated on these ~400 times at a high level getting slashed, skating hard, etc.

For the first kid, in an adult league setting, his skate would last 4-5 years. For the latter in an adult league setting (twice a week) his skates would last 10-15 years.

At all levels of skates it is totally user dependent on how soon the skate will break down. Based on what I have seen, it seems top-end skates are lasting those extra years for mens league guys, especially the ones that skate hard, compared to that mid-level range skate.
