Bauer X7.0 skate

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of upgrading my skates from the X30 to the X7.0. I know this is a fairly apples to oranges upgrade in going from a low end skate to a high end. I was wondering if people can tell me what I will notice on the ice and what I will gain in making the upgrade. I skate 1-3 times a week and am 30 years old. My x30's are in decent shape but they are a bit to loose around the ankles. Your feedback is appreciated.

What height/weight/position are you? It may give us a better indication of where you are. Also, how competitive is the league you play in?

Try a pair on at the LHS you might also being wearing too big of a skate for you if its loose. You will notice a difference between the x30 and 7.0, the 7.0 is a high end skate. try a pair 2.5 sizes smaller than your shoe size and work up til your longest toe is just scraping the toe cap. The skates will expand a little when they are broken in. That should benefit you the most on the ice having proper skate size.

When I say too loose around the ankle, I mean that they seem too flexible in the material. Not necessarily the fit. I should have been more specific. Thanks

You'll have more ankle support for sure. Very tight fit in these.

Gain you will get through better fitting and better sharpening/profiling rarely from the skate features tho.

(By better I mean that goes better according to your personal preferences)

Oh, i misinterpreted that. The x7.0 will definitely have a lot more ankle support and more ankle padding than your x30's, just a high quality skate all around

I just bought a pair myself, and I love them. I think your biggest gains will be in the support and weight departments. And I would recommend heat moulding the skates once you find the right size. This is my first new pair of skates since the Vapor XX, and I must say the technology has improved a lot since those days.

The first thing I noticed when switching from one100s to x7.0s is how light they were. They feel lighter than my shoes I swear.

Really? According to icewarehouse the one100s are 882 g (for a size 9 D), while the X7.0s are 881.6 g (for a size 9D), doesn't exactly seem like a noticeable difference to me.

The first thing you will notice is that the 7.0s are stiffer and much more responsive than your x30s. That's how i felt back in the day when i went from mid range skates to my first high end skates (supreme 8000s). Felt like going from a civic to a ferrari!
