What patterns do what?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i'm new to ice hockey ( played roller for years ). I used to use some old patterns that resembled the Sakic / Hall curves, but recently i've been thinking about trying something new. I used to used the Easton SE6 with the Sakic/Hall patter and I just picked up a stealth RS to try on the ice......wholy crap, what a difference. Anyhow, the stealth I picked up is also a sakic / hall, but I feel like the sakic / hall curves isnt suited for me. I'm a 6'3 foward, who loves to shoot, not much of fancy stick handler , love the back hand pass when i can do it, but over time it seems like pull my shots wide right ( i am a lefty shooter ) and sometimes high over the cross bar. Can anybody take a stab at what each pattern bellow is good for and any possible reccomendations?

Again, love to shoot, not a great stick handler, love the backhand saucer pass, seem to lift the puck high and wide right too a little often ( shoot lefty ).

it is in mostly in the way you shoot but try a closed face blade to keep it down as far as putting it right id try a iginla 2 piece set ups are nice because you can try many different patterns

If your shooting too high, you could try anything with a closed face. ( the new Cammalleri (p4), Heatley or Iginla like Sharks25 mentioned).

If you are pulling the puck on your shots a lot you could try using a curve with less depth (p2 or p4). Though according to the chart you will have to get an S19 or ST if you want p2.

Something with less loft will help with keeping the shots lower and a smaller curve or something closer to the heel will help with the shots going to the right. With practice though, you should be able to do anything with any curve. My choice would be the Zetterberg, your preference may be different.

Since this topic is here, I have a general question based on that Easton diagram above...

Comparing the Roy with the Chara...which one of those would be considered the 'deeper' mid? 3/4 curve over 19mm, or 3/5 over a shorter 15mm? Looking at the curves makes my eyes go cross. I *think* the Roy is deeper.

Chara is the deepest mid I've ever used... I have to Easton ST's right now with that curve. It's everything I want. Banana curve, closed toe, lie 5

Edit: I used to use a Roy curve, and based on my experience the Chara is deeper by leaps and bounds.
