Comparing Visors

Recommended Posts

I've been looking into getting a new visor since I'm sick of wearing a cage. I'm looking for a big visor but not as huge as the Oakley one that Heatley wears.

So far I've narrowed it down between the Bauer Dx100 an the Oakley 2.0. I've compared both specs between these and have all of the info I need from that end.

Does anyone on here have experience with either one of those or maybe with both? Thanks.

If you're looking to wear a bigger visor because you are hoping for more protection keep in mind... really the only thing a visor is designed to protect are your eyes. I mean if you're going to wear the Oakley 2.0, why not go with one of those cage/shield combos? Personally, I wear the straight pro from Bauer and it's a smaller shield. When wearing a visor it's not how, it's WHEN you're going to take a stick to the face. Try the visors on a helmet and get one that YOU like and suits your needs best (vision, etc).

I was using Oakley Straight Pro Visor for 3+ years and other then a few chips here and there it was fine until recently I caught an elbow straight into the visor and the damn thing snapped right off (the plastic broke right at the attachment point where the bolt hols are) digging into my nose cutting & bruising it pretty good, made quite a bloody mess actually when the nose popped.

After some hesitation I ended up buying DX100 simply because of the plastic reinforcement around the top plus the fact that I can take the lense out for coaching etc. So far so good - doesn't fog up, provides clear vision and overall doesn't get in the way.

it is a little heavier then other visors but nothing to be concerned about.

BTW given that it covers the entire nose I'd hope it'd provide at least some protection to that part of the face and not just the eyes, but the time will tell...

Thanks for the input. I'm going to steer clear of the 2.0 as I've read a couple other stories like yours about the top clip breaking.

Do you know if the replacement lenses have the anti fog/anti scratch coating that the Dx100 uses? Everything I've read has just said "Anti-fog coating". I figure theirs no point to spending the extra money on the deluxe if I can get the same thing for less.

While I agree that wearing a visor will not protect from everything, the concept that the only thing protected is the eyes is somewhat flawed.

I've taken several sticks and pucks near the bottom of my visor that would have caused injury to my nose and cheek. A smaller visor would not have protected me in some cases.

More coverage = more area protected except those times that a puck or stick gets under the visor.

OP a couple of my teammates wear the Dx100 and love it. I've not noticed them having fogging issues.

I finally made my decision and ordered the Dx100. Thanks for all of your help.

to my knowlege all junior and minor pro teams use it, so can't go wrong with it... no fogging with it either so other then a little extra bulk certainly soudns like a good option.
