New skate/cramped toe

Recommended Posts

Just looking for a little fitment/skate help.

Coming from u+09 in a 9.5d (no problems, good fit) and going to a eq50 in a 9d and the skate fits my foot like a dream from heel to midfoot to instep. Perfect width in a 9d and everything. Shoe size is 11-11.5.

The problem is that my big toe on both skates is constantly in contact with the toe box. It does move back when I bend my knees over my toes but other than that its constantly in contact with the toebox. Its not just the "feathering" against it when standing up, my toe also is up against it when walking around and its just not comfortable. Would going up a half size be helpful? Im planning on going to my lhs to see what can be done about this as I have just purchased my skates yesterday.

Is it just a comfort issue with me because I did not have this occur with my old skates? Or is it just a issue with skate length? Any input is appreciated , thank you.

If they aren't comfortable, then why did you buy them?

As they break in, your foot should slide back a tiny bit into the heel pocket.

True, baking them might result in gaining a little more room in the heel, but neither is going to fix a skate that just doesn't fit.

This is why I asked about his old skates. If its not broke don't fix it....do what has worked in the past.

Sorry I should have been more specific.

The skates are a christmas gift. I had tried on a couple pairs with the intent of purchasing them in mind in the future.

In regards to the issue I was having, I feel grateful in having a great LHS and is one of the reasons I prefer not to purchase from online (especially skates). I tried on the reebok 11k, bauer one80, and the ccm u+12 all in various sizes. The ccm did feel nice but the easton skates in a half size bigger (9.5) felt perfect and had no toe issues. My prior ccm skates were also 9.5. The heel lock and the instep, aswell as the initial comfort and fit of the eastons pre-baking is amazing. Post baking and its even better, skates wrap around my foot beautifully. I have no complaints against ccm, the eastons simply fit better after a direct comparison.

Had my first skate in them today and could not be more pleased.
