mentalhazord 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2012 I'm sure this has been asked before but here we go...I'm just now getting allowed to start working my way back into playing. I'm 6mo post ACL reconstruction. My knee brace that I currently have doesn't work so well with my current shin pads. Large amount of modifying would need to be done to make it work. So I'm looking for some recommendations for some that will fit over a knee brace well with little to no modifying of the shin pad. I would just go to a local pro shop and try some on but the nearest one to me is about 2-3 hours away so before I make the drive to check them out I want to have a good knowledge base and I can call around to see if they have them to reduce the hassle of being let down when I get there and they don't have anything that will work. Thanks in advance.
steelnation248 102 Report post Posted January 2, 2012 There might be some options for you in this thread. Also, knee braces are different and not everything likes the same shin pads, etc...http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php?/topic/57124-best-shin-guards-for-knee-braces/
jrhky36 1 Report post Posted January 2, 2012 what type of brace do you have? if its a hinged brace like a donjoy, breg fusion ect then i went throught what you are now. i found that the best thing to do was to take the knee brace with me when i went looking for shin pads. i could not find any that worked for me. so i ended up modding my bauer 5000s. i did this by heating it up and wideing it at the mid calf. when your in hte store look for wider shin pads through the knee. you'll also find that taping at the knee will help as well. no brace will fit 100%. mentalhazord 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2012 Thanks Steel, i will look through that post and see what people where suggesting. I have a Donjoy Hinged knee brace its just an out of the box one didn't have the money to do the custom thing with out insurance. Thanks for the advice Jr I have been trying to find ones that say they are "wider" while doing my research. I tend to lean more towards them anyways because i play defense. mentalhazord 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2012 Figured I would post what I ended up with in case someone else runs across this topic wondering the same thing. After trying on about every pair of shin pads the pro shop had. I ended up with: CCM U+ Fit 09 Shin Gaurds. They felt pretty good and fit pretty well over the knee brace. The knee cap is a bit wider than most shin pads that i tried on. Now just getting use to wearing the brace and the shin pads while playing is different story. Thanks again guys for one thread to read through and the tips. I really enjoy reading some of the topics here.
