Wishing guilt on someone playing a game? Im sure these guys werent out there saying " hey lets hurt this kid " . Illeagle checks happen , thats why there are penaltys. To wish grief and or harm on someone that , Im sure already feels like crap , is quite disturbing. Accidents happen. Focus prayers and healing on the injured , not grief on a 16 yr. old kid who wasnt trying to permanently injure another kid. Some of Jacks team mates have said in other interviews , that they didnt think the hits were dirty or cheap , and it was just a freak accident.If any of you guys have a twitter acct. mnpucker 33 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 Understanding this horrible incident has impacted peoples lives all over the world. The hockey community here in Minnesota is experiencing feelings some of us have NEVER had. First of all I don't know Jack and I definitely do not know everything about the check but as I understand it, it was an accidental hit. So please consider the well being of the young men that initiated the contact as well.Jack's home association is implementing and initiative that is taking off state wide. The following lists some of the details behind "Jack's Pledge" in an email from the association President: The main push for this is that kids at the Bantam and high school levels are hitting for the sake of hitting - not for the purpose of a check which is to separate a player from the puck while playing safely. The game was never intended to be football players on skates running around looking for something to hit. Our association policy is in its final stages and we will release it to all other associations that want to join "Jack's Pledge". It does include: - mandatory preseason checking clinics that include proper checking technique, improper checking, and respect for the safety of opponents. Clinics will include a written test component that players will be required to pass to play that further emphasize safety for opponents, and proper checking technique. - in season doubling of penalties that we have deemed dangerous - check from behind, head checks, roughing due to the "finishing your check"/late hit/cheap shot concept that some coaches actually encourage and you see all the time at the high school level. These will not be subject to coach determining if it was a bad call, or any 'grey areas'. If the ref calls it, we are supporting the refs even if it is a bad call. No minimizing of checks from behind with "He turned at the last second" - an argument used on virtually all hits from behind. A 2/10 will now be an extra 12 minutes on our bench before you can play. A 5 and game will now be extended to two games. Repeat offenders will have to meet with hockey committee officials for additional discipline. - parental instruction to not chirp officials even when there is a bad call. We want them to call the 'ugly checking' penalties more and we realize they will make some mistakes. If they make a bad call in the process, we have to accept that as part of our push for safety first. - A signed pledge by players and coaches to adhere to safe play and the understood consequences. After the tragic injury to Jack Jablonski, hockey mom's and dad's are asking "why should I have my kid play?" They're right. Maybe 20% of an association's membership will play high school, maybe 3-4% will play college (D1, D2, or D3). Why send a kid out there for fun only to be injured by a reckless kid, when they would be much safer playing winter soccer, lacrosse, or hoops? As mentioned in the email that I sent to fellow BSM parents, our association leaders have met with the Jablonski's and Jack himself. They are fully behind this initiative. Jack is a clean, skill player and that is the kind of player that we want to develop. We have ordered a first order of 5,000 "#13 In Our Hearts" helmet stickers and will be receiving mid next week. We should have our final draft of our association policy out in the next few days. We will provide free stickers to all associations that wish to join us and adopt a similar process and have their players take the Pledge for cleaner play. In the end....we cannot control the players or coaches of other associations. Some choose to play a dirty style of hockey. We can control our players and we can assure parents from other associations that our kids will play the game in a clean fashion (or face serious consequences in addition to penalties handed out by officials). We want other associations to step up to the plate and join us. At days end over 100 hockey association Presidents had contacted Minneapolis Hockey to enlist in the program. The intent of this Pledge is honorable, the motivation for its generation is horrific. If Jack's Pledge impacts one players motivation/actions during a game it will be a success, hopefully it will impact all players.Tonight a wonderful young mans life is changed forever, I am sure he would trade everything for one moment in time back. Based on everything I have learned about this young mans character, he WILL make a difference in this world one day, no matter his physical abilities. Our state of hockey is completely and thoroughly rocked. Parents are questioning the importance of playing the sport. Players are questioning how this could happen. The world is showing tremendous support and I urge each and every member and visitor to this site to visit Jack's Caring Bridge site listed above and let him know that he as support from the global hockey family. Thus far players and coaches from the NHL, NCAA, Junior, Canada, USA, the WORLD, High School, Prep and youth as young as mites have reached out to Jack through the Caringbridge site. goblue9280 33 Report post Posted January 17, 2012 Awful news... hope she has a speedy recovery and regains full use of her lower body.With the prevelance of camera phones/pocket camcorders, why would the Minnesota High School hockey official say anything until the incident was fully investigated? They just look like complete idiots now suggesting that she fell on her own.The note about her suffering a similar injury in '08 (in which she also lost feeling in her legs) is interesting. Lets hope and pray that , that is the case and she will fully recover. And hopefully get involved in the sport in another capacity , such as coaching or reffing. I think it safe to say that she'll probably stop playing , now that this has occured twice.Ive also read that Jack Jablonski has moved his arm below the tricep and crossed his left arm over his chest. This is awesome news for him , as his prognosis is much more grim. And a big thumbs up to all the kids and assosiations stepping up to help the families financially. Awesome gestures! mnpucker 33 Report post Posted January 22, 2012 Today the State celebrated "Hockey Day Minnesota 2012". The day includes 15 straight hours of Hockey programming on the local Fox Sports channel. Included were numerous hockey related special features, 2 high school Boys games, 1 Girls High school game, U of MN Gophers vs CC, wrapped up with the WIld vs Dallas (how fitting 2 minnesota teams on the ice). Additionally in town the US Pond hockey championship was occurring on a Minneapolis Lake, The U of MN women's team played Bemidji and at the Jon Rose Oval there was a special game played by Veterans, nearly every hockey association in the state spent the day on ponds and outdoor rinks celebrating our heritage and love for the sport.If all that is not enough, the day was dedicated to Jack Jablonski. The Minnesota Wild and Fox Sports North conducted a telethon. In 15 hours $134,000 was raised for Jack Jablonski. The hockey community is unique more importantly they are caring and giving. Today the world was able to hear Jack speak for the first time since the injury. The young man is strong. During the feature on Jack, the last comment he made summarized what we, hockey players are all about. After telling us some of his goals, including attending school next year the first and and getting behind the bench for his Red Knights team once again Jack said the following,"I don't care if I ever walk again, I just want to skate, I will skate again. After telling us some of his goals, including attending school next year the first and and getting behind the bench for his Red Knights team once again Jack said the following,"I don't care if I ever walk again, I just want to skate, I will skate again. It may take awhile but I will get on the ice again."I'm down here in Houston and happened to flip over to FSNorth and watch the last 2 periods of the Wild/Stars game... even though I'm not a fan of either team, I'm so glad I did, not only because it was a good (3 goals in 1 minute by the Wild), but I got to catch the feature after the game about Jack. Loving this sport and having kids myself, it was really hard not to lose it during that feature. When he delivered that line about not caring if he ever walks, but he will skate again, there were most definitely some tears coming down my cheeks.
