New Shin Guards RBK or Warrior Projekt

Recommended Posts

Need a new pair of shin guards and can't decide between the RBK 9ks or Warrior Projekts. Both look, feel, and fit great in the store but its hard to tell protection until you actually fall on the ice.

I like the price of the projekts since they are on sale everywhere but I don't mind spending the extra $30 for the RBK 9Ks if the whole jofa knee cap protetion is legit and not just marketing.

Any opinions?

Admittedly, I've never used the Reebok 9K shins, but I do own the 11Ks and that was shortly after I owned the Projekts. Here's the deal: I bought the Projekts after hearing about how zote foam was the biggest thing in hockey protection since Ron Hextall retired. While it's true that I felt pretty indestructible wearing them, the knee cap felt uncomfortably tall on me and the side knee protection was intrusive whenever I bent my legs, so I sold them after a few weeks of use. A few months later, I gave the 11Ks a try and while they are a bit warm and I wound up having to cut the straps off of them, they are fine otherwise. I imagine the 9Ks are almost as good, plus they look like they actually have vents in them that are there for more than just show.

Long story short, my personal recommendation is the 9Ks, but if you don't mind the fit of the Projekts and prefer Warrior over Reebok for any reason, go with those instead. Cheers.

I have no experience with the RBK pads, but have the Projekts and find them both comfortable and protective. I do find the side knee flap to be bigger than necessary as Burning Bear mentioned, but I just avoid taping down that flap and don't have any problems. The new redesigned Projekts coming out in the spring have smaller knee flaps and also seem to have smaller knee caps (although I don't really have a problem with the current caps). The other change with the redesigned Projekts besides the graphics is the removable liners. If you need pads now and are happy with the fit of the Projekts I'd go for those.

I currently have the Projekts and have been wearing them for about 2 months now 3-4 times a week.

Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, great strapping system, great protection

Cons: Really only one; the knee cap is very tall and in my opinion unecessarily large. The first few times I wore them my shell kept getting caught behind it. That has since stopped since I cut the flaps off, but they are still way larger than most.

Overall they really are light and comfy and stay in place perfectly, but because of the knee I will most likely go with Reebok next time. Hope this helps.

I believe both the knee and the flaps are smaller on the new updated Projekts comming out this spring. I'm sure the knee flaps are, but it also seemed like the knee cap was as well when I saw them and tried them on at Winterfest.
