It is my understanding that most of the Big Name sticks(and most skates) are actually also made in Taiwan or now even in mainland China. These original companies fund the technology development, to create their own sticks(and skates), and the high end prices are because they need to write off this development against the first run of the products. They change models every year to some extent, so they need a fast write down on their product development.

You can begin to see the problems this creates, when you keep changing models every year....But this is also one of the techniques manufacturers use to help prevent the cloning.....trying to stay one step ahead.

The companies in Taiwan(or a sister company) then use this technology development which has been paid for by us (the consumers on this side of the Pacific), to clone many of the brand name products...with significantly reduced costs (no development costs)....but they are usually one generation behind..6 months to a year....

This phenomenon is happening in every industry where NA manufacturers are using the less expensive Asian labor markets to cut costs....a huge long term pitfall, for a short term gain.

The process, while using their cheaper labor, also passes on the technology allowing foreign manufacturers to reproduce many products...without nearly the same overhead..hence the cheap clones. It has gotten to the point where the technology, not just the labor costs, for some manufacturing(not all), is actually better over their than it is here. That was not the case a few years ago.

This is a problem that goes way way beyond hockey sticks or skates....and is responsible for a huge outflow of $, jobs, and thus the manufacturing bases from both Canada and the US.

Ding-Ding-Ding, I think he's got it. It's like a lot of the knock off golf clubs you get. My Uncle lived in China for a while, and he bought a couple sets straight from their factory, they're exactly the same as his year old Callaways but without the big price tag.

I don't know whether to ressurect this thread or start a new one.

I saw these sticks in a store the other day. The high end ones weighed 295grams. Which to my understanding is 10 grams lighter than the lightest Easton (I could be wrong here).

The shop owner said they're only like 150CND and sure they might break, but so will an Easton and the Maxx Energy and the Easton both have the same warranty (30 days).

Sounds like an offer I can't refuse. I bought a TPS rubber shaft to keep down on my monthly stick expenditures, but it's not the same thing as a one-piece. And apparantly these Maxx Energys are as whipping (about) as any other whippy one-piece. So maybe this is my solution to spending less money on sticks??

You probably mean 395 grams which was the same weight easton claimed their 05 Stealth weighed in at. And Idk could be a hit or miss thing. You could get it and hate it and maybe it wouldnt perform as well, or maybe you could get it and it could be the best stick you've ever owned. I guess it just comes down to if you want to take the risk or not.
