ruffage 6 Report post Posted March 8, 2012 Anyone have any experience with the new Warrior Mojo shaft? In particular with comparison to the AK27 would be great. I've been using the AK27 in each of its three flavours since it came out, and I think the original orangey-red grip version was my favourite in terms of the size/dimension of the shaft, along with the textured Nipple Grip. I've heard the Mojo has a bit of a boxier/squared shaft shape. I'd like to know if it's significantly heavier than the AK27 and how the puck feel and 'pop' on shots compares. I was hoping they'd offer the new Evo shaft with Nipple Grip but it seems to be only the velvet grip which I'm not a fan of.
ruffage 6 Report post Posted March 9, 2012 Well, I found a $10 off coupon for a LHS and decided to give one a try. Regular price was $69.99 which was notable to me because I'd seen the Mojo shaft on some of the big US online stores for ~$90. Typically us Canadians get the shaft (pun intended) with pricing, with everything being more expensive up here despite the CAD being on par with USD for a while now. They only had two of the shafts in stock, both 85 flex. I normally use 100 but since I'd need to cut ~3 inches off it I figured that would stiffen it up by a few points. After cutting I noticed something a bit unsettling - the shaft wall dimensions were irregular at the butt end after cutting. One side was really thin, and another was noticably thicker than usual. The Mojo shaft (unlike the OPS) doesn't have the Axy-Sym asymmetrical shaft so I assume this is a defect/quality issue? Further, when I went to stick the little plastic end cap back in it was sitting really loose, like tons of play either way. I had to wrap a bunch of layers of tape around the plastic and then hot-glued it to make it fit snug. If I have to lengthen it down the road due to replacement blades having different length hosels this will be a problem since a wood plug won't fit snugly. I don't know if it's worth trying to return or if the store would even take it back since it's been cut. I guess for $60 I'll just roll with it and see what happens. As an aside, in case any one at Warrior is listening, it would be amazing if they added shafts to their MyWarrior custom site. I'm guessing there isn't a huge demand but surely they'd be easier to manufacture than OPSs, and it would be great to be able to choose hosel fit, shaft dimension/shape, and grip type (along with cool visuals) for those few of us who still like a 2-piece setup.Haven't actually tried the stick out yet on ice, that'll come tomorrow morning. ruffage 6 Report post Posted March 10, 2012 You can customize the shaft for a Dolo or Widow OPS, but you can't get just a shaft for a 2-piece setup, unless I'm missing something?

ruffage 6 Report post Posted March 12, 2012 sorry its off the topic. have u tried mojo blade as well? No, just the shaft. Tried it Saturday first time, paired with a One95 blade. Puck feel was a bit muted, not as good as the AK27 shaft or the CCM U+ CL pro stock OPS I'd been using most of the last 3 months. Not bad for the price though, but the quality still concerns me as mentioned earlier in the thread. I'm on the ice ~3 times a week so we'll see how longevity is.
