Repair a chipped blade

Recommended Posts

The toe of my favourite stick is starting to chip a bit. Nothing major but I would like to nip this in the bud if possible by using epoxy or something along those lines. I was contemplating fiberglass repair used for boats but I would prefer something a bit less noxious and a bit easier to handle such as an epoxy that will bond well to the chip.Any suggestions?

I've used two-part epoxy on a few sticks and it has worked out pretty well. Currently, i've been using JB- weld and it works very well. You can sand off the excess and it holds up pretty well.

yes, just make sure its the right kind of epoxy per your stick materials, and that it will give you a waterproof and good temp range for bonding. i have used a few manufacturers, and the repairs have held up pretty good, and yes very sandable. i bought a few small clamps to hold any flaps together, and a heat gun to melt it if i make any errors in bonding (every once in a while i dont get in the cracks deep enough). i have a reebok 6K that sustained some major damage right after warranty lapsed, held up pretty well until i replaced it with an 11k.

Epoxy works well like said above. Also try clear nail polish. Put several thin layers other the chips/cracks. Its strong, light and flexable. It might not completely fill the chip, but it helps it from chipping anymore.

When I was working in a shop, I used two part epoxy for ski/snowboard repairs, waterproof, durable and workable (filing, sanding, etc). Forgot the exact brand, it was bought through Wintersteiger. You can find 3M stuff or could possibly find something similar in a hardware store.
