New to the forums, and thanks

Recommended Posts

After laying off playing hockey for many years, I decided it was time to play again. Since so much has changed in the last 15 years, I needed to find a reliable source of information, which led me to these forums. Just wanted to say hello and thanks for all the great pointers and info, that has helped me select skates and equipment to play again. I've been on my 11K's for about 2 months now, and if it weren't for topics like "skate size" I might have went with a LARGER skate to overcompensate for my foot width. Many moons ago I used CCM Tacks 651s in a 7.5D, but reading info on new width options, I selected Reebok's 11Ks in a 6.5E width. The difference is night and day in skate response. The topic on SUPERFEET also prompted me to try a pair, and they have been incredible. No sore foot issues, lower back cramping, and the responsiveness of the skate seems to have improved as well.

Great topics, great forums!

Thanks!

I have to also say thanks.

Similar story, Altho i quit only about 8 Years ago when it became clear i was to pay for my own stuff (was in highschool - mum bought everything).

And also being from australia, there is not much info out here, let alone LHS's.

But a big thankyou for everyone who has posted that i have read...

On a side note - i am starting to get addicted to the site reading topics such as pet peeves at drop in etc my wife is starting to whinge about hockey and i officially havent started back up as im waiting for new skates to arrive...

2nd side note - I used to rock the CCM Kevlar 752s in a size that is too small for me now, shame really as they were close to the perfect skate and i doubt the new u+12s will be as good...(atleast they will fit).

Welcome guys, I joined the forums a while back, as well after a long break from the ice. The advice and discussions here are second to none and I don't know how I made it through the 90's without MSH! I probably spent a lot more money on trial and error back then.

To be honest i just cant beleive how much things have changed,

How many companies no longer exist,

I used to almost exclusivly use Montreal Sticks for the last 5 years i played.. Now the company has been sold.. when i started the OPS was just starting to be introduced like the original synergy... couldnt afford it.. Wood ftw. ( i know they were bought out by warrior now)

My old Coach/friend i played with for yrs used to use Christian sticks, there no longer available...

Koho and Jofa are basically extinct (now reebok etc)

Warrior didnt exist back then as a brand.

LOL, I spend less money on trial and error now, and more money on trying new things based on MSH members' recommendations!

I think it balanced out in the end.

WOW Christian sticks... Me too! Now when I ask for a wooden SHERWOOD, they laugh at me. Tell me there's no comparison to a composite stick. We shall soon see.

SIDE NOTE... Can't find a topic on SUPERFEET mods. I'd like to reduce the heel height on them by just a few mms... ANYONE know of a method or recommendation?

to DAVETRONZ...I agree. I definately find myself getting the right equipment the FIRST time out because of these forums. We should all note however, they are and always will be recommendations. Trial and error certainly fine tunes a preference. :) I still saved alot of money by bypassing the "unwantables."
