hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted May 17, 2012 The rep for my adult rec league team just got us signed up to play in this charity tournament. I guess they have previously been doing these on the East Coast but are going to do their first West Coast tournament here in Oregon. Has anyone played in this before? It seems like it's been a pretty positive experience from what I've read about their previous events. Just curious if anyone has played in this tournament before and what their experience was. I may have the opportunity to work some of the games for the East Coast event located @ a couple of the FSZs.
hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 The West Coast tourny isn't until September. It's gotten pretty big as far as team signups are concerned. I just read that Kerry Frasier is going to ref the East Coast event this year. The guy that I normally play with is involved with the scheduling and organizing of the different skill levels. The info he's been passing down sounds really cool. Hoping it turns out well....sounds like it should.
maxamillion 3 Report post Posted August 9, 2012 Haven't been around in a while, but came back to post about this tourney. I'm playing in the east coast event next weekend. anyone else here participating? It's a great cause, and Matt, the guy that started it, is a pretty cool dude. played pick up with him in the past. I'm totally pumped, haven't really played a meaningful game in a long time!
hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted August 10, 2012 Let us know how it goes once it's done. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun. The way the wins vs donation amount is pretty cool! Definitely gives extra encouragement to get the W. haha.
215BroadStBullies610 435 Report post Posted August 10, 2012 Yea I am hoping to get some games in to get ready for the upcoming season. Pretty cool to have the East coast session in Philly's backyard. The West Coast tourny isn't until September. It's gotten pretty big as far as team signups are concerned. The info he's been passing down sounds really cool. Hoping it turns out well....sounds like it should. That's pretty sweet. It's a good opportunity for both players and officials to be involved in a tourney that will be competitive yet have a better cause at hand. I can only imagine how big the WC tourney will be. hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted August 13, 2012 So, the next thing I've heard about is that the ref's for the West Coast tourny will, in part, be on tryout. I believe it was mentioned that the higher league level will have the referees evaluated for potentially placement for WHL/CHL games. They are hoping this will help keep the integrity of the officiating up as well. I believe a portion of the money the referees are being paid is going to donations for the charity. Sounding better and better.
maxamillion 3 Report post Posted August 20, 2012 Great tournament, lots of fun, but the officials ruined our last game and kicked out our best player because the ref was on a power trip.

215BroadStBullies610 435 Report post Posted August 26, 2012 It was a cool tourney and the fact that this year '50+' age group was added shows that more people want to help out the cause. Does anyone know when they will put up 2012 pics?
hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted August 27, 2012 Where in Oregon is this taking place? I'm in Tigard, not far from the Sherwood Ice arena...It's at the Winterhawks Skate Center (originally the Valley Ice Arena) in Beaverton. They are doing their Beef & Beer dinner the Thursday before the tournament.

Pretty cool to see him just to participate and be 'one of the boys' for a weekend.
hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted September 1, 2012 Good question....I don't know. Not that they have announced. Although he was out here with the WHL Winterhawks training camp this last weekend giving away the "Paul Gaustad" award for the hardest worker/skater so who knows. hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted September 11, 2012 So the West Coast version ended on Sunday. It was a ton of fun. It was very well put together and all the guys were super professional about it. We only had a B and A division available. The team I played on was in the B division and it was a lot of fun. Great pace and everyone was in a good mood to play hockey and hang out. Will definitely look forward to participating again next year. If you have a chance to play in either the West Coast or East Coast event I would highly recommend it. mcawesome 1 Report post Posted October 26, 2012 This tournament is run by my buddies (Sunday Danglers) from New Jersey and Bader (from Oregon). It's been my favorite weekend of hockey for the past few years. Unfortunately, I had surgery on my hand in April, so I had to miss out on playing this year, but I would urge anyone in the Philly area to get a team together and join in next year, It's a blast.
