Mesh + solid gussets

Recommended Posts

I wore a large hole in my glove's gusset (index finger, next to the middle finger, around the last knuckle), so I'm getting ready to sew in some mesh gussets. I noticed that some gloves have mesh gussets for the 1st 2 knuckles towards the palm, but a solid gusset around the end of the fingers.

Why is this done? Feel? Durability?

Thanks in advance.

OK, thanks for the information. I think I'll cut up some of my remaining gussets (looks like clarino) and put them on the finger tips for the durability.

1st game with the repaired glove tonight. The inside gussets had good airflow, and the solid finger tips felt like normal. It looks like it was worth the effort.

Sorry, been busy with work, fixing my son's car, and playing hockey. I will try to post some pics this weekend.

Finally got Kies Air to work, so I was able to take and upload some pictures from the phone.

Here is what the repair looks like after about 12 games. The stitching was done in 1 hour while watching TV. The solid parts were from the best parts that I could save from the gussets when I took them off.

This is a left Eagle X70 glove. It is much cooler than the right one, so I will do the same mod to the right one when it's time to replace its palm. I shoot left, so this glove wears more than the other one.

Palm side view: you can see the black mesh between the index, middle, ring, and pinkie fingers.
