Home net and shooting pad

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a decent net and shooting pad for my driveway? I'm not looking for NHL-class stuff or anything for the net (hell, I'm not sure it matters if its regulation size).

I was just going to get a pad, but after missing a one-timer 3' from the net into an open net that cost us the game tonight, I think I need one of those puck return things for one timers.

Thanks!

in my opinion sniper's edge is a great alternative to nets if you don't want to deal with endless bounces.

I even had one installed in my basement for a while (just founds 3 joists and hanged it off the ceiling) and the "damage to the environment" was minimal - it sort of ate all the pucks even when I took slapshots etc at it.

too bad I had to take it down when i put the house on the market - what a great training tool! :(

I have a net/backstop combo by EZ Goal, this one, and it keeps my shots from hitting the fence or flying into the neighbor's yard about 90% of the time. It has little pocket net/targets in the corners, simplifies things if you can hit them. Might be too expensive if you're on a budget though.

+1 on the tarp. I just bought a regular tarp online, picked up a can of red paint, and painted on a 4 x 6 net. Cost a lot less than the Sniper's Edge tarp, but it still works. Plus the tarp will have a pretty big catch area if you botch a shot.

When you want a pad, do you want to just shoot off of it, or practice stickhandling, too? If the former, you can get by with a x-large shooting pad (get a large one; if you get a small one, you will have problems with space). If the latter, I'd recommend the roll-up shooting pad. These can be found on hockey shot.com, or practically anywhere else online that sells hockey training equipment.

I went back and forth with the taro versus a real net... ended up with the ez goal with backstop. Usually its set up in the garage, but my son likes to pull it out into the driveway to play street hockey with his friends... so I'm glad I went with the real net. The ez goal is very solid for the money.

For a shooting pad I got one of the large roll ups (4x8) with the bungee rebounder. Definitely the right size for stick handling... and it allows us both to shoot off of it at the same time (he's a eighty I'm a lefty). I think it's made by ez puck... which I don't believe is affiliated with ez net. If you're just shooting, a smaller pad is fine... but for stickhandlng I'd go with at least a 4x8.

Thanks guys, i was looking at this one: http://www.hockeymonkey.com/winnwell-hockey-accessories-usa-72in-quick-mesh-backstop-net.html?green=14225461278&utm_source=mybuys&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=web_rec (same idea as the one posted)

The tarp looks cool, but I think I'd prefer something I could move.

As for the shooting pad, it's pretty much just for shots. Stickhandling I'm honestly fine with the green biscuit on the garage floor. It's pretty smooth so the green biscuit works very well. Doesn't need to roll up or anything either. Actually, I'd honestly prefer it didn't.

I have an EZ-Goal and I love it. It takes pucks well and doesnt dent too much. Plus the net is fantastic I havnt put a single hole in it. As for a shooting pad, dryland ice training tiles are great! If you want an actual shooting pad (that doesnt roll up like you said) get the hockeyshot professional shooting pad.
