Skate Fit

Recommended Posts

After some input on skate fit.

Where i live there is no LHS - Closest is 1000+ km's away.

I have previously been using Tour's but found the heel pocket too loose, and over all the boot was a bit large in all places but the toe. The old missions used to give my feet hell in the arch.

I then ordered some bauer x60's but because of not being availble the store i order from sent me a pair of Mission T9's

Now the missions heel pocket is perfect for my foot. I have had to punch a couple of spots towards the front of the boot but the real issue seems to be at the toe cap. My outside three toes are squished together and after a game i can't wait to get the boot off, as a result I am strugling with weekends with more then one game.

Is there a boot that fits similar to the mission with a wider toe cap?

Or is there a simple solution i could try to fix the issue.

Have you tried reebok? seems that they could be a decent choice, but what I'd do is send your feet tracing to Some place like hockeymonkey and go from there.

You should definitely look at our Alkali skates. We have a nice snug heel, but a wider forefoot. Also, our skates are fully heat moldable and change shape to fit your foot. You won't find a more comfortable skate.

The toe box can change slightly (when you heat plastic, it you can stretch it a bit). However, our toe box is a nice size and fits the majority of people. Most people with width issues, usually have a problem where the toe box joins the quarter. This area is heat moldable, and also the widest part of our skate.

I suffer from exactly the same issues. imho the pre Bauer buyout Missions had a much better toe cap, post buyout I can't wear Mission or Bauer skates because of the squashed toes.

Rbk's do fit wider but they also have a lot more volume in the heel, really comfortable from day one but if you have narrow ankles / heels that extra volume will cause problems later on down the track.

Alkali have a narrower heel and you can shape the boot, including the toe cap, to get a nice fit. I still had to punch my CA9's in a couple of places (inner ankle bones and the little toes) and I have an ongoing issue with the tongues but in terms of a pure boot fit they are pretty good.

Thanks for the input guys,

I am thinking of a pair of Alkali's from what I have read. If a got a lower end spec to try the fit out, is there much difference between the fit of say the ca5 and the ca9?

Thanks

Damian

I can help with regards to length. You will need a 1/2 size larger than the Missions you have. I fit a Rbk 10k or Mission T9 perfectly, in Alkali and RX60's I need a 1/2 size up eg Rbk size 8 = Alkali size 8 1/2.

To size your foot and boot - take the laces out, put foot in boot, push toes forward till they brush the toe cap, bend forward and look and see how much space there is between the back of your heel and the boot. 1mm - 2mm perfect, for each cm of space you can drop 1 size.

The CA9 is not a very stiff skate. Not even close to the stiffness of an x60 or T9. My old t8s are much stiffer than my friends ca9.

softer because of more forward flex maybe? although the fit is good, especially on heel portion, i wish it was stiffer and has more volume like mission.

The softer boot will in turn constribute to the forward flex. S17s are quite stiff but still allow decent forward flex because of their design. I wish the lower quarters were quite a bit stiffer. I weigh only 175 but stop hard and often and make quite a few turns and cuts. I like the responsivness that a stiffer skate allows. For that reason alone I didn't get the CA9 and went with a one100 conversion.

Hey guys thanks for the input.

My gf got me a great deal on a set of rbk 10k's and i was suprised but they fit perfectly. Only skated a couple of times in them so and the only issue is the tri di chassis, but more skaiting i should get over it.

I am a heavier player and am after input on peoples experience with wheel set ups.

Well the reebok's were great until the larger heal pocket kept letting my foot move about a cm up and down causing some nice blisters on the heal, Thankfully I have found someone to take them off my hands and the search continues.

Is an ee toe cap wider then a r or d toe cap?

Other wise I might have to return to Tour's

My understanding of toe caps is that they don't change in size across a width, a toe cap on a D is the same as the one on an EE. I have always thought this to be odd and could be wrong, maybe a boot manufacturer could give us a reason why.

I'm almost positive they change with width. If they didn't, half the reason of manufacturing multiple widths would be taken away.

Mission has used the Bauer toe box since the Boss SE line came out (ie when Bauer purchased Mission). They are the same.
