Gloves to sticky and sticks to Grippy, should i do?

Recommended Posts

I recently bought three grip RS's and i love them, I also got a new pair of pro return bauer 4 rolls, which have a super grippy palm. the problem is my hands get stuck and i cant move them freely up and down the shaft of the stick, no pun intended. this effects my ability to handle the puck and to react to passes. I cant buy any more gear, Got any ideas as to how i can modify my gloves and or sticks to fix the problem?

Try putting water on the palm of your gloves. I notice some palms are too grippy with a griptac stick, so I dampen my bottom hand and it allows it to move more freely. You don't have to soak it, just get it about as wet as it would be from sweat at the end of the skate. Might be just enough?

Another option is to use spray paint or clear coat on the stick, covering up the grip. Or candy cane the shaft with stick tape. It's still grippy, but not as tacky as the rubber coating on the shaft.

I used to hate grip sticks, so I know what are going through. I did two things, both had mild success:

1. I wraped the shaft of the stock in clear shin guard tape. I did it for just the area my bottom hand would primarly be. I tried both long strips of tape on each wall of the shaft as well as a candy-cane style (just with no gaps). The later adds some ridges - similar to the Tac-Spiral feel on some Bauer sticks. Problem with both is that if you get slashed a lot, you will notice chunks coming out of the tape coming off.

2. I actually would apply a little bit of baby powder to my palms before the game and sometimes between the periods. Works well, but is not consistent.

What if you hit the stick with a coat of hair spray?

You'll get a gummy mess all over the palm of your glove and it will still be too sticky.

Just put it down the wide side of the shaft, leave the grip on the top and bottom.

Or, try something like this.

I had a spray like this to add some grip to non-grip sticks (MSH2 palms I think need some grip to go with them) but I didn't like how easily it peeled off. Anyone have thoughts on one being better than another?

You will notice some J&J Baby Powder on the bench when the Big Boys practice...sprinkle it on lite...ON THE STICK...does not take much...easier to put more on - than - to take some of it off - if - too much.

Paint the stick in clear coat spray paint, a couple thin layers should cover the grippy finish of the stick. It is beneficial to scuff the surface of the of the stick with high grit sandpaper so the clear paint will stick better.
