New Equpiment - Tight Budget

Recommended Posts

I need to buy new skates and shoulder pads this year, and I'm on a pretty tight budget so I really need some good bang for the buck.

With my last pair of skates I switched from Bauer to Easton's and I gotta admit I LOVED my Easton's and definitely want to get another pair of Easton's.

Long story short, here's the Skates and shoulder pads I'm currently thinking offer me best performance/quality & bang for buck for my 1 night a week of hockey.

Skates: Easton EQ 40: $150.00

Shoulder Pads: CCM GR8-7 : $50

note: I'm in Canada and don't want to order through american company.

Thoughts on these two items??

I'm as price conscious as the next guy, but fit should be the primary consideration. If you're on a budget I'd look at every closeout pair of skates and shoulder pads in your price range, try on everything you can and then pick the ones that fit best. Don't worry about the brand - just worry about the fit.

If those skates and shoulder pads fit you well then they seem to be a good value at that price. Keep in mind that just because you loved your previous Eastons doesn't mean you'll love the EQ 40 skates - different lines, even in the same brand, fit differently so you really have to make sure they fit right or you will have issues.

Like althoma1 said, if they fit you well and are in your price range, you'll definitely be happy with both. Neither is a bad product by any means. Just make sure you try both on!

Get these skates - http://www.hockeymonkey.com/easton-synergy-eq5-skates.html. Right now theyre $150 with the coupon on the front page, essentially theyre prototype EQ50's that never really went public.I got a pair about 8 months and playing D2 college hockey theyve held up very well, probably one of the best/durable skates ive had. For shoulder pads, those OVI's are pretty solid as well.

The EQ5's don't fit like the EQ40. It's a solid skate, very stiff but does not feel anything like the EQ40, at least on my feet.

If it fits it's a lot skate for the price.

He said in his first post that he didn't want to order online.

danno is correct, the fit is similar but not the same.

Like the others have said, get the skate that fits best in your budget range.
