nkrajewski12 2 Report post Posted August 10, 2012 Hey guys I know there have been topics similar to this in the past but ive hit a bit of a crossroads when it comes to my next choice in skates. Ive been skating in mission t6's for the past summer and spring seasons and while theve performed great in the game, i cant wait to get them off afterwards. I cant blame the skates though more so the fact that that im 90% sure they are half a size to a full size to small for me. Ive had them punched out in a few areas but my feet still go numb in a few areas and the pain in my feet bother me to no end at the end of a long skate. So with the advent of the new fall and winter season and a budget of between $200 and $300 dollars im not sure weather to buy another pair of t6's in the proper size, save up a bit more for one of the new inhaler series skates, or to try a whole new brand such as alkali or such.Ive been a mission boy my whole roller career but with how much time i end up spending on the rink these days comforts really becoming a top priority. wrangler 157 Report post Posted August 10, 2012 If you read all the other threads, you'll see that the advice all comes down to one thing -- try on a bunch of skates. It may be that your skates are the wrong size. It may also be that your skates are the wrong shape for your feet, and you've been compensating by having them punched out here and there. Find a LHS and get fitted properly. Remember it's not just about not hurting after play, but also about what you're doing to your feet for the long term. Justin 1933 134 Report post Posted August 10, 2012 The overall response to the comfort of our skates has been amazing. Almost every player that has worn our skates, has said they are the most comfortable skates they have ever had on their feet. The CA5 for $229.99 fits in your price range, and is an amazing skate. If you can afford the CA7, you get a high end skate at a mid price point. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have on the product. Good Luck and I hope you find a skate that works for you.
Vet88 674 Report post Posted August 11, 2012 Skating in skates that are too small is a guaranteed way to kill your feet. Measure your foot (piece of A4 paper against a wall, heel against the wall, mark the end of the longest toe and then measure) and I'll tell you what size skate you ideally should be in. Then you can have a hunt for skates depending on your foot profile, wide feet / ankles look for Rbk, medium feet / ankles Bauer / Mission, medium to narrow feet / ankles Alkali (although Alkali will claim to fit most ranges of feet). These are pretty generic fits and are based on my own experience, everyone's foot is slightly different and you might want to try to find a skilled fitter at an LHS. jazz4all 9 Report post Posted August 11, 2012 alkali is more like D in mission. just a lil bit wider on forefoot, but narrower in the mid area ( wish it was wider) and ankle.
sharks25 9 Report post Posted August 13, 2012 Mission is wider than Bauer, vet88. Its based on a supreme fit, compared to a vapor fit on the high end bauers. The lower end Bauer skates fit wider than the higher end ones, but still are narrower than mission.
Vet88 674 Report post Posted August 13, 2012 Hey sharks25, nice call. Now you mention it I vaguely remember the Boss SE I had for a little while did fit wider than the RX60's. This all leads to some pretty good information if anyone is hunting for skates, length is one thing but picking a brand of skate that, unbaked, naturally aligns itself more to your foot shape is pretty hard to work out unless you are lucky enough to come across a knowledgeable LHS salesperson (rare as hens teeth based on my experience of them). So we have, from widest to slimmest:Reebok / CCM Mission (post Bauer buy out - SE line onwards)Bauer low endBauer high endAlkali (but extremely malleable so the manufacturer says it will fit most foot shapes)
henryb 4 Report post Posted August 13, 2012 I think you have that right, but one thing to note is that the high-end Bauer's and Mission's (and maybe others), have both D and EE widths available. The low end Bauer's only have one width, which they call R, which is somewhere between D and EE. At least that is how they did it a few years back... I'm not sure if they stuck with that in the current XR line.
