Anyone here currently using u+12's right now?

Recommended Posts

I've been digging around looking for any info / reviews on the u+12s and am looking for some input from users, how has the durability been? I've heard some horror stories but they're all second hand accounts and how well does the u foam form around the lower ankle / heel area

Sent from my iPhone when I should be doing something more productive.

I've been in a pair for a year and a half, skating two times per week. They are holding up fine. U foam works. Just make sure the boot is a good match for your foot shape.

got 18 months on my pair, went for 9d because 8.5 e was out of stock, big mistake, have taken 12 months of 3 hours a week to get enjoyably comfy. but that was my fault.

boot durability i feel is one of the best (i sharpen skates so i do see lots of other used boots) i painted clear epoxy over the stitching next to the toecap when i got them ,

the eyelets are awful, they are made of embossed alloy and rot and crack along the embossed pattern, i have replaced all my eyelets with brass ones.

after about 12 months the solid structure inside the boot supporting the tendon guard broke, one tendon guard is a bit more flexible but perfectly usable . changed the vented steel for solid steel as the vented steel feels flexible and clicks in the holder . I think there are few boots to match performance for price on the u+12,

I also have some x60s and some 11k, the u+ is by far my favourite.

Ive been using my u+12 for about 2 months.. coming from old school 752 Kevlar Tacks..

I have done nothing to improve the longevity of them.. they seem to be fine altho i have lost 2 bolts that hold the steel in (i should check it more reguarly).

With the eyelets i can agree they are crap as a guy in the change room last week with same skates pulled out an eyelet(he wasnt happy)

i will also be putting some epoxy over the stitching near toe cap as once reading the above post i can notice it is the first place to touch the ice when going over.

I've been wearing a pair for about a year and a half, skating three times a week. The boot is still very stiff and looks nearly new. I had my LHS repair some stitching that came loose near the toe box around the 14-month mark.

The U-foam holds my ankle in place well. It has broken in to the point that my toes have a little more room at the front. I could possibly have gone smaller by a half a size if I'd gotten an E width.

My son has been skating in them for a year and a half. He skates 4-5 times a week on average and 3 weeks of camp last summer and 4 this summer. He just turned 12 and wears size 4.5 (so junior skate), but is a big kid, 5'3" and weighs 120lbs. For the amount of abuse the skates have taken they have lasted fairly well. The boot is still solid. Some of the stitching is begining to fray come apart. As mentioned above the hybrid alloy on the outside of the eyelets is horrible and every now and then one just disintegrates and needs to be replaced. There has been some pilling of the Clarino liner. The odd nick or cut on the boot here or there. We recently replaced the runner with Step steel, by choice more than need.

Replacement is something we've talked about. Right now the big debate is wether he will outgrow them before they need to be replaced. Really wish CCM would put a new skate on the market. If they had to be replaced tomorrow, we would in all likelyhood replace them with another pair of U+12s or CLs. Based on price, the up on your toes stance, fit, performance, satisfaction and durability of the skate.
