performance hockey jerseys and socks: how are they?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to pick up some new practice jerseys and am weighing between plain regular jerseys and nicer ones. Has wicking fabrics made a difference for you?

Also, are socks made of wicking material any more durable than traditional knit socks?

Thanks!

In my experience the socks aren't any more durable and get just as many wholes, however; they're definitely lighter, more breathable and don't retain water like the tradtional socks. So you're paying for performance and not durability.

As for the newer jerseys, I do notice that the hockeytron practice jerseys I use for my one roller hockey team are much lighter, not as hot and don't retain as much water as the traditional knit jerseys. I wouldn't spend a lot of coin on them though - just get a cheap one from hockeytron or another lesser known brand like Kamazu or Firstar or something.

+1 for Tron jerseys and socks. They weigh almost nothing, are super breathable, and last just as long as conventional knit stuff. Also they are priced really well. $9.99 for a pair of socks, $10-$12 for a jersey.

Agreed. Hockeytron is the best deal for the performance socks and practice jerseys if you live in the US because the shipping is also cheap (or free for orders over $99). Now, if you're in Canada like me you'd only want to order from them if you're ordering a significant amount of product since their shipping fee to Canada is now $45. I think it was only $25 (possibly less) about a year and a half ago when I ordered my socks along with a roller hockey girdle, roller pants and a stick bag so the shipping to Canada has went up significantly. I wanted to grab a visor from them recently since the S30 visor would've been $16 with their current 20% off promo, but the $45 shipping fee made me turn to eBay instead. I got the same visor from another seller for $24 plus $10 shipping - so the price of the visor was more, but the price difference in shipping more than made up for it. $45 for shipping is crazy unless it's priority or you're getting a big wheel bag or something.

So if you're in the US then hockeytron is probably your best bet for the socks and jersey, but if you're outside of the US then looking for the brands like Firstar and Kamazu on sale at local hockey stores is probably your best option unless you're ordering enough product to make the shipping fees palatable.
