toe cap thickness

Recommended Posts

I'm missing something like 3-5mm on one of my toes of the toe cap for the fit to be good lengthwise on my one95 skates. Do you guys have an Idea of how thick it is and if you have done this before?

Dremel from the inside to make room? I wouldn't expect more than a MM or two, and that's with precision handiwork. Not to mention that thinning the toecap will drastically weaken its protective qualities.

i'm assuming your skates are slightly small and you dremeled so that your toe is just resting against the toe cap. as soon as you take a hard slapper to that toe box, you will really regret it. i've had tight fitting skates before and several times busted my big toe taking a hard shot straight on the toe. would have probably injured the big toe if i had dremeled.

Agreed. I have seen it attempted. It's not a good idea. In custom Bauer, you can go up or down 2 full sizes in toe caps for your future consideration.

Like I said, get the boot heated and stretched lengthwise. Should gain about 1/4 (sometimes a bit more) of a size. You'll gain the length you need without compromising the structure of the toe cap.

do I just put my feet on in order to stretch them or is there a tool that you advice using?

If you're this into DIY, heat the boot, shove a couple napkins in the toecap, and cram your foot in there. If you're realistic, take it to a shop and have them lengthen it for you properly.

Take them to a good LHS with a skate oven and a boot stretcher.

They'll warm up your boots, then put them on a machine that has two separate arms - one with an attachments that looks like the front part of a foot, the other like a heel... One is expanded to widen the forefoot of the skate (if desired), the other is expanded to lengthen the skate.

Its usually good to leave them on the stretcher as long as you can, overnight if possible, so that they get the maximum stretch and retain the new shape.

Just call around your area and ask if people do "boot stretching" or "power stretching".

lengthen a skate? or just compress some of the foams at the heel?
