Is a cowling necessary for converted player to goalie skates?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Recently took up inline playing in goal, I was using player skates but recently came across and used pair of goalie skates that are 3 sizes too big, I could theoretically remove the only the chassis (5 wheel tuuks) and put them on my player skates, would this be possible and provide any benefits compared to the current 72, 76, 76, 80 set up currently?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as always,

Aaron

It should be fairly easy to see if the length of the chassis will fit on the outsold of your player skate. You need to leave at least a 1/4" of outsole exposed at front and back, otherwise the chassis is too big.

Now the other issue is the amount of forward pitch. My guess is that the Tuuk chassis is more flat then your RBK 72-76-76-80 set up. But that could be corrected with a small heel lift.

All that being said, I am not a goalie and have never done such a conversion, there might be other issues you may have to deal with? Maybe some goalies out there will chime in and provide advice.

Having done both I would sugest jusst leave your player skates as is and use them until you can find a pair of goalie skates that fit. If you want to be closer to the ground I would try and down size your wheels.

Another option is to check the frame size of the tuuks and find an ice goalie boot that fits and do a conversion. ( this is what i did using a hummer chassie. )

since your current frames are the tri-d you wouldn't be able to just put 59mm goalie wheels across the board. in order to do that you would need a flat set up frame.you could potentially downsize all of the wheels proportionately but the chance of finding all three sizes you would need might be infinitesimal.
