sickwilly 37 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 Since there isn't any NHL hockey to this point, I was wondering if anyone in North America is following European hockey. If so, do you have a favorite European team?
Sputnik20 46 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 Home team: Dinamo Minsk...although when I was growing up we didn't have a team and I followed CSKA (Moscow), who had all the best playing for them: Tretiak, Fetisov, Fedorov, Bure, etc..

pody37 3 Report post Posted October 21, 2012 I follow my local team in England, the Telford Tigers, but also keep an eye on the Cardiff Devils in the Elite League. As far as mainland Europe, I try to make a trip every year or two to watch a game somewhere new, so I always support the teams I have seen. So far I have been to see Sparta Prague (vs Slavia Prague in the playoffs!) Kolner Haie in DEL, Dynamo Riga in KHL and Jokerit in SM Liiga. I'm going to watch EHC Munich in December.Sputnik...are games well attended in Minsk? Are tickets easy to get? I have been looking at taking a trip there to catch a game. Sputnik20 46 Report post Posted November 4, 2012 pody, from what I see/read is that the games in Minsk sell out in their new arena. No idea on how easy (or not) the tickets are to get. I haven't been in Minsk in over 24 years now, a lot has changed since then.

CommodoreColt 19 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 I recently read a fascinating article about the history of the KHL's CSKA (at Yahoo! sports, if I remember correctly?). Sergei Fedorov is the current GM of the organization, which is beautiful and ironic considering that CSKA is the direct modern descendant of the USSR Red Army hockey team. To the extent that CSKA is still popularly referred to as "the Red Army".Remember the stranger-than-fiction fashion that Fedorov came to play in the NHL... I'll leave reading about it as an exercise to those who never knew or don't remember, because it is a truly awesome story to read and discover on your own. It's totally worth it.I'm not necessarily a fan of the team (I'm actually a fan of no one, I don't know why), but I do think they are really cool for having such an interesting and dramatic timeline. JIMRB96 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2012 Gotta stick with the OKC Barons. I'm not an okie btw. Just livin here for a bit but the team is fun and I don't get any KHL games otherwise taking in some Peewee action on Weekend mornings is just as good! Ps- anybody know the name of the book and/or the player from the US who went to USSR in the 80's (I believe) to play hockey. I read it about 15 years ago and find it pertinent now. Wish I could remember the name.
hellaavangard 33 Report post Posted December 7, 2012 I've wanted to catch some Rytíři Kladno and HC Košice games but haven't been able to find links when I've been around a computer at a time when either team was in action. Not a Euro based team but I've been watching Grand Rapids Griffins games to see my favorite young player Tomáš Jurčo in action
