kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I just recieved my v-12's from Buzz (they're awesome by the way!) and I want to make some more ventilation in them. Would it ruin the skates if i cut out the little vent shaped things on the front of the toe cap?
#1STUD 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I would not do it becuase they made the skate that way for a reason. I dont know the exact reason but it could have been for protection and you would be messing with the structual integrity of the skate.
Lucius 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Don't do it.
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I was thinking the same thing when trying on some V-12's a few days ago. I think If you used a drill with a small bit and low torque you would be able to make some ventilation holes no worries at all. Or as they say on the Simpsons....SPEED HOLES! I doubt also that it would ruin the integrety of the toe cap as its made out of a very heavy duty and flexible plastic. ;)
#1STUD 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Dont know how fast guys can shoot from where your from, but around here i would hate to take a shot to the toes, especially to a to cap i have taken material away from.
duckjob 1 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I dont' know about nikes inline skates, but a lot of companies that have ice and inline setups, will take the ice boot, put a cap with holes in it on the skate. I would think as long as you placed them right, and were gentel, it wouldn't harm the skate.
saba 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I drilled holes in both my Tour G-90 and CCM Externo Outcast with no problems. Small holes in a diamond pattern approx 1cm apart

Pretty fast buddy. Last time I looked as well an inline puck deforms more than an ice puck on impact creating less chance of a break. Besides how many times have you been hit on the toe cap with a puck? I can count the instances on one hand and I've been playing just under 10 years.
MDE3 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I suspect from the point of view of costs, the Nike V12 toe cap and the Nike HiHo toe cap are identical except for the vent holes. Whoever does the molding may just puts some plugs in the molds to make the holes in the HiHo cap when pouring the inline version..That would explain why there are marks on the ice toe caps where the open slots would be in the inline version. Either that or the hole positions are premarked on the ice toe caps during molding, to be mitered out in a separate process for the inlines.
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 So yes or no MDE3? ;)
MDE3 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I would go ahead. We no longer have the HiHo's as I sold them recently, so I cannot put my hand inside and see if there are any boss structures around the vents for reinforcement. If you have any real concerns, call Nike.... and do the vents really make that much of a difference anyway?
GekigangarIII 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 so I cannot put my hand inside and see if there are any boss structures around the vents for reinforcement. I'll check tonight.. I have both hi-hos and V-12s

GekigangarIII 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2004 Thanks Geki..... I can't tell any difference maybe a slightly thicker plastic on the hi-hos. The holes on the hi-hos are definitely molded that way, you can see the ripples in the plastic where the mold was poured into the holes. I would say you'd be ok to rout out the existing holes on the V-12. The thing to remember is that the holes aren't completely drilled out on the template there on the hi-hos.. it's just a slit about 1/8" wide within the oval ie) just a slit within that oval, not drill out the whole oval.hope that makes sense... hunter4oz 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 i take it by v-12 you mean and ice hockey boot. the only reason they dont have holes in the boots of ice skates is because the snow your create from stopping would get in your boot and get your foot wet. since your playing roller, i drill them for ventalation and i also dont think that it would hurt the durabilty. they are made to take pucks going around 100 mph so i think youll be fine
