Graf 709 vs. Bauer Nexus 1000

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for some new skates and have been looking at these two.

I have really thick feet and a high instep so I basically need the deepest fitting skate on the market, outside of custom.

Anyone have any experience with these two skates ?

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've not worn the new Nexus 1000's, but I wore their predecessor the Flexlite 4.0's and the Graf 709's - I'm not sure if the fit varies very much..

I too have a high instep, both were fine. 709 probably slightly deeper than the Flexlite 4.0.

The 709's are wider in the forefoot and higher cut, definitely the better of the two skates.

I agree with all of stuie7's points, but I'll add that the Nexus 1000 would likely have a better durability than the Graf 709 over time.

For a "volume fit" I find both of these boots quite narrow in the forefoot, but they both have deep insteps, and wide® heels.

Remember that the Graf will put you more towards a forward pitch (up on your toes), while the Bauer will set you more neutral (over the center of your foot).

I currently wear the 709's and really like them. The only issue I have with them is that they are not stiff enough at the ankles.

I can't say anything about the nexus 1000s as I have never worn them before.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.

I'm currently skating in a RBK 5k from a few years back. There's definitely not enough volume for my foot, although the width is pretty bearable. I wear an 11.5E in RBK.

I'm probably going to go with a 709 and from what I understand about Graf sizing, this means I should be in a size 12 in Graf, most likely Wide Plus. Is this correct ?

Try it in both 11.5 W and 12 W as a starting point. I've seen VERY few people who properly fit into the Wide+.

Graf 709 in 10W equates to Flexlite 4.0 9.5EE, I'd try the W before the W+.

When I first tried them on they were a bit narrow for me, but now they've broken in I'm glad I didn't go for the W+. They seem to have expanded a bit.
