EQ50 Skate Issue

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

So I got some EQ50 skates or Xmas and after a couple of games (probably 10-14 games), I noticed that exterior thermo shell is indented on both skates on the inside ankle area.

Left Skate - It's pretty easy to see the 2 indentation.

Right Skate - Harder to see but it's right above the "E"

When I run my fingers over the indentations, it feels like the exterior thermo-layer broke and is soft in the cavity. i.e. it doesn't feel firm. It doesn't seem to have affected

the structural rigidity yet but I'm worried that it'll give out. It could be from getting hit with the puck but I wouldn't expect the skate to do this.

I can still return them to where I bought them but before I do, I thought I'd ask because I really like the skates.

Has anyone that has the EQ50's or EQ line of skates had this happen? Or is this normal?

Thanks

Yup, there's a couple small indentations like this on my pair of EQ50's. It happens, from what I've seen on almost all the pairs that have crossed my path.

Although, yours look quite a bit larger and deeper... My divots don't affect the performance or protection in my experience. I never worried too much about it.

I don't think that your retailer or Easton would see this as being a warranty issue. I'd continue to monitor it though.

most easton skates until the stealth have boot quailty issues sometimes it doesnt affect the perormance sometimes it does it varies from person to person maybe warrenty the skates to your shop and see if easton will supply you with the same skate

I wouldn't say most. The only boots that had chronic issues were the S15 line (mine are still going strong after 2 yrs, 2 yrs longer than most people) and to a smaller extent, some of the older Synergy skates. That's where Easton lost a LOT of their reputation from what I've noticed. The S17s were a bit better and I find that the new EQ lines (EQ5, 50) are quite decent with no major durability issues.

Having skated in several Easton boots, I've only really experienced problems with the Synergy line like AIREAYE says. I had the S12 but I've destroyed those in 9-10 months and I really do take care of my gear. I really liked their first boots (Air) but they were a bit heavy....very comfortable though. My favorite boot was their Z Air line starting in 2001 and the Z Air Comp's but a lot of that has to do with the depth and fit of the boot being perfect for my feet.

Unfortunately I have a lot of depth between the toes and instep right before they turn up into the ankle so very few skates fit me with enough depth. I like my skates as close to my toes as possible and having a heel on the narrow side doesn't help either. :( Eastons are one of the few that fit though i do wish they were deeper.

Not going to lie in that I was a little disappointed with the S12 durability but I'm hoping these EQ50s will last awhile.... long enough for the price of the MAKO skates to come down and for me to save up! :) Hopefully, the MAKO skates will be deep enough for me... can't wait

till my local shop gets them in so I can try them on.

8 should be about right, maybe a bit of room... I like my skates super tight, so I usually drop down to 7 or 7.5 and stretch to my larger foot (I'm also a 9.5 dress shoe).

No, there is no way to be sure unless you get sized up. It doesn't matter what you shoe size is, or how you perceive your width to be; it would be innacurate to guess at fit, so I strongly recommend that you find a way to get fitted for them/try them on first.
