DIY Oreo Cage

Recommended Posts

I have a black CCM 580 cage that I want to make into an oreo cage. Has anyone tried painting the inside of the bars white? If so, how did it turn out?

What type of paint would work best?

Any opinions would be great, thanks.

I used some white acrylic paint on an old black ccm cage of mine. i didn't mask anything off, and just used a relatively thin brush to dab the paint on the inside facing portion of the bars. Aesthetics, C- (due to uneven dab marks that wrap around the sides of the bars), Function, A.

Did the same thing with an old black 580. Masked off the front but there was still quite a bit of overspray. I'd say my function and aesthetic score was the same as Beedee's.

Aren't you guys afraid of paint chipping and that stuff getting into your eyes? Or are there specific properties (e.g. flexibility) to acrylic paint that I am not aware of?

The acrylic adhered really well, it almost has a rubber-like quality to it. I've actually tried to scrape it off in an area just using my thumb nail, and it takes a bit of effort to get it off. So, to answer your first question, no, I didnt worry about it chipping off and getting in my eyes. I'm no longer using that helmet/cage combo though, but for the 2 months I did use it after I painted it, I didn't have any issues.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will try to brush some matte white acrylic on and see what happens. My mom is an artist, maybe I try to get her to do it instead.
