CCM Widths: D vs E

Recommended Posts

Looking at some CL skates on close out. How much wider is the E compared to the D? Does an E width in CCM have a larger heel pocket? Where in the skate is the E wider than the D?

If I am able to choose between the widths, I want to make sure I go with the best fit especially after the bake, and the break in. Heel lock is usually an issue for me, so that is definitely an important part of it.

D vs E is the forefoot width. The second letter in a sizing is the heel. i.e. 9D/A is a standard width CCM skate.

So it's just a tiny bit wider in the forefoot of the skate? The mid-foot would be the same?

How much wider in the forefoot would it be approximately?

Can you try both widths and decide? If not, like I mentioned in your other thread, I would recommend opting for the D if you are on the fence as it has the capacity to expand to an E but the skate cannot contract to the same magnitude. Better to have a slightly narrower skate that can expand due to bake/stretch/break-in rather than a skate that is slightly too wide.

I thought it may be a B heel. I tried the D on in the store. It was a little snug in the forefoot, but they wouldn't bake it unless I bought them there on the spot. I liked the heel lock on the D. Would heel lock improve or lessen after baking?

I'm going to see if I can try the E's on this week to compare. I'm worried that the heel will be a wee bit sloppy if it is a B heel.

The heel won't get more narrow after baking. They will either stay the same or open up a little.
