Quick question

I dont know much about ice skates since i play roller but i got a pair of skates sharpend today and they still look flat on the bottom. There is no edge to them at all it seems. It does seem like there is a small groove in the middle though. Is this how there supposed to be, or should they come more to a point at the bottom.

That's how all skates look when they're sharpened, each blade has two edges with a cut straight down the middle called a hollow which in turn creates those two edges. Next time you get your skates sharpened, ask the guy sharpening them if you can go in the back and watch and you'll understand everything and how edges work.

I had a look at the hand sharpening gizmos they have there too. Check out the hollows that they put on those things - is it just me or are they all pretty deep? They list 3/8" as standard and 1/2" as shallow, and 1/2" as standard for goalie skates.

Anyone tried the sharpening tools? I can't imagine that they do that good a job, but maybe someone has found otherwise?
