Skates for BIG feet

Recommended Posts

Hey Guy's just wondering what those of you with 'oversized' feet have been using for your wheels

I'm a UK size 14 in most trainers, (15 U.S) and have had a pair of Graf 705 oversized for about a year and a half now, and sadly they're starting to fall apart a little bit, so I'm just beginning to save for my next pair and was wondering what the rest of you guy's with big feet have.

I wouldn't get another pair of the oversized 705's as they are frankly pretty awful, Insoles made of cardboard (replaced with SIDAS) terrible holder/steel (replaced with ls2) and paper thin tongues (replaced with nash snipers). These mod's have prolonged their life, but I'm now starting to notice a little lack of support when using the outside edges and need to weigh up my options.

I know that fit is of course the primary concern with skates, and I think I have fairly 'regular' feet in terms of width/depth/shape, but you gotta try em on.

Sadly there aren't ANY shops that stock them as standard, but I've got a good relationship with my LHS who will order in anything I need.

I know the Bauer Vapor x80's are available in 13 and look pretty decent especially for the price, what else are you guy's aware of?

All the best

GD

I too have large feet (14/15 US) and always ASSUMED I would need something around a 12-13 in wheels. After an hour long try on session at my LHS, I bought a pair of Bauer Supreme One40s in an 11EE. I'm a beginner and only skate 1-2 times per week, and these seem to hold up pretty well. My suggestion is to go ANYWHERE locally to actually try something on before spending decent money on good skates.

I did use to wear a 11 in Bauers which I had since my feet were a fair bit smaller, and they were agony, we're talking feet scrunched up in fists small.

Whats available, at least in the US are:

Bauer makes up to a 12 in all skates but go larger in the X80 in wide only (no standard D width larger than 12)

Easton goes to 12.5

CCM goes to 12

RBK goes to 12, again, they go larger in E only

Graf goes to 12 except the 705 as you know, which is available in narrow, normal and wide up to 15 full sizes only.

Other than that, you'll have to go custom.

Bauer usually makes one model that comes in US 13, 14 & 15(full size only) in an standard E width. I know we have ordered those sizes every other year in the Vapor line. In canada its the $399.99 price point.

Okay so after some serious catalogue picking it seems that as I previously thought, Bauer do the vapor x70 in 13

Reebok do the 18k and ccm do/have done the crazy lite in 13.

Of course fit is the main thing, but do any of you have any recommendations of one over the other between these three?

Not sure exactly, around $750-$800. To give you an example on sizing, I require around an 8EE in something like a Bauer Vapor or Supreme. I need a 7EE in the RBZ and if I prefer my skates slightly on the smaller side, I could drop into a 6.5EE. I currently wear 8.5 S15s, which size smaller.

I don't always trust a brannock, sometimes EUR sizes are more accurate and reliable.

Agreed, and even between Brannocks, I find the Reebok/CCM ones more reliable than Bauer.

Okay, now I'm SUPER confused!

Bauer's sizing chart says that their box size 12 are in fact a 48 which is near enough a 13 (well 12.5 ish...) ...So I may have to give that a go

Does anyone know which companies skates tend to come up the longest ?

There are these monstrosities on evilBay

The old Nike skates fit true to US shoe size -- those 13s are not as big as you think they are.

Look at the Bauer Vapor X5.0 in size 13-15E or the Reebok 11K in size 13E. The large sizes tend to be the last remaining stock and should be STEEPLY discounted this time of year.

Haha yeah I know I had pair when I was younger.. They were AWFUL!

I'm sure I COULD grab some of those, but I'm worried that they're going to be miles too wide!
