Patrick Roy to coach Colorado

Not sure what to think about this. I love the idea of Sakic and Roy being reunited, but you've also got to put a competitive team on the ice. Is this a merit based hire, or another cynical ticket selling scheme? The Avs ownership seems completely disfunctional since Sakic and Roy retired and the remainder of the legends were dispatched. Stastny provided a spark of hope, but then fizzled relative to expectations. Same could be said for Duchene. Maybe Landskog, Parenteau and Seth Jones can do it. In any case, whenever I saw the team play this year, I felt sad for Hejduk and puzzled by what had happened to the team over the last decade. What a fall from grace, especially as compared to their rivals, the Wings.

And here I thought I'd never have to see that smug, arrogant mug again. Rats.

As for the Avs in general, they have been heaping a ton of pressure on the young talent over the last decade to grab and carry the torch. That can wear on a kid when they don't temper the enthusiasm for young skill with realistic expectations. The team has been rebuilding and the kids will have their ups and downs. There hasn't been a lot of veteran leadership in that room for the last 7-8 years. It takes time.

I think this has no middle ground.. It's either an over the moon success....like, playoffs next year....Division in 2...Cup in 3-4 years kind of success....or absolute failure and he's out midway through season 2!

He's just that volatile a personality.

Varly hasn't had a full time goalie coach since he has been here and they either fired their part time goalie coach last month or he left so now they have no goalie coach. If Roy can help Varly then I'm fine with it but I would much rather have Tippett as coach.

I think even f Roy is the head coach...he still needs to have a dedicated goalie coach. The HC can't spend that kind of time dedicated to one area of teh game...as great as he was...I think he needs objective eyes on the goalies. Obviously, he is there to help wherever he can...but the a coach will still have to exist to work exclusively with the Goalies.

I agree but you have to realize the Avs haven't had a full time goalie coach in years this could be a 2 birds with one stone thing in their eyes to pinch pennies. I'm more curious as to how Josh Kroenke stepping in his new role will affect the Avs. He did manage to turn the Nuggets around pretty good so I have semi-high hopes.

Looks like it's official, Avs have a new head coach and vp of hockey operation all rolled up into one package.
