tuckerhockey13 3 Report post Posted July 2, 2013 My coach keeps ragging on me about my current skates, reebok 12k. He says that I need to get new skates that are stiffer to help support me. I'm 6' and 280 lbs. I was looking into the Bauer nexus 600 or 800, but I'm afraid that they are still to soft for what I need, but that's all I can afford right now. I went to my Lhs and tried on a pair of 600s and they felt awesome.
Zjack38 46 Report post Posted July 2, 2013 Bauer supremes? One.7s or one.8s aren't as expensive as some skates, their stiff, and I'm pretty sure the tongue flexes more that other skates out their, which is good. I think, if I'm wrong sorry, correct me, I'm
A2rhino 77 Report post Posted July 2, 2013 Depending on what fits most importantly I would look for possibly some Bauer One100's on clearance. These are a great value and a stiff boot.
ID Rollerpop 4 Report post Posted July 2, 2013 If Easton fits you very well, you might take a look at the EQ50's or EQ40's both are pretty solid skates which should be stiff enough for someone like you. A lot of places have those on pretty good clearance right now both in the LHS scene and online.
QuieTSToRM33 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2013 I just ordered a pair of Graf 709's. They felt stiff enough when I tried them on. For the record, I'm heavier than you.
tuckerhockey13 3 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 I also have a flat and wide foot. I'm really trying to see if some one who owned a pair of 800s could tell me how stiff they are, all of my Lhs don't carry that one, but have all the others in the nexus line. Carson92 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 The nexus 1000s seem pretty stiff I wouldn't say as stiff as the apx or nxg I haven't seen the 800 but they should have enough support for you being only one step down. The nexus 1000s seem pretty stiff I wouldn't say as stiff as the apx or nxg I haven't seen the 800 but they should have enough support for you. slapshotz44 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2013 I'm 6'1 250 and work at a hockey retailer, so I've tried pretty much everything . Someone your size in the current lines of skates should go with at least a vapor x80, Supreme ONE.8, or if you like Reebok skates (flat wide feet), go with at least the 16k. The new CCM RBZ line is nice too. I've had a pair of them for a couple of weeks now and they have really added some stiffness to their boots. A pair of RBZ 80's or greater would be ideal. I'd be optimal for you to find a top level skate, and possibly one with a composite quarter package. As someone suggested a pair of one100's or even one95's if you can find them would be awesome. I have a pro stock pair of one95's and they're amazing. I tried the white K's, which are almost identical to the 12k and they were wayyyy too soft for me. Once you find skates that give you the support you need, you'll find some untapped power in your stride that softer skates can rob you of. good luck!! tuckerhockey13 3 Report post Posted July 7, 2013 Went to my Lhs again and tried on a mess load of different skates. I had tried on the vapors before but the newer x series was nice and didn't seem as narrow, my pinky toe was just touching the side. and the arch seemed to help stableise me more which i found to be weird. I looked at the x70 and deff was more supportive than my 12k. What is the difference between the x70 and x80? My Lhs didn't carry the x80.
tuckerhockey13 3 Report post Posted July 21, 2013 I pulled the trigger and bought the vapor x70s. Besides some blisters due to breaking in the skates feels awesome. The arches are higher than I'm use to, but there not terrible. Also my foot sits comfortably deep in the skate so my laces aren't popping out.
