Toe Cap or Toe Protection?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I play Defense, and block a lot of shots. Last night I took a snap shot off my toe cap, and thought nothing of it until I took my boot off.. I guess the adrenalin got the best of me because I didn't feel anything until after the game.. Anyway my big toe is know black and the nail is compromised.

I am playing in Nexus 800 boots, what can i do to add protection to my toes? Luckily the shot was weak, I don't want to know what would happen if it had some speed on it.

My skates fit me perfectly and my toes are grazing the cap, so I have no room to add anything inside.. is there anything I can add to the outside of the toe?

Thanks in advance!

I've looked for months and haven't found anything. Almost tempted to buy the next size up in the skate, rip the toe cap off and glue it over my skates. Shot blocker XT pro offers the most protection but they don't do anything for the toe.

Maybe a layer (or multiple thin layers would probably work best) of some kind of sheet foam like neoprene, cut to the right size and shape to cover the toe box... the issue would be finding an adhesive that would be strong enough to hold it on but not damage the plastic of the cap or the foam. Not sure that exists.

Edited to add another thought - maybe Kevlar?

I kind of like that idea, we could even buy a pair of used skates in a size larger and use that toe cap some how

The problem for me would be that a half size larger would cause a poor fitting and performing skate... but I do agree that creating space will help... I am very surprised Shot Blocker has not come up with a toe protector yet

I am considering cutting this up (it is pretty useless as it cuts off circulation in my heel and causes more pain than the boot break in caused):

I am thinking of adding some of this onto the toe cap. Not sure how much shock absorption it will provide, but it may be worth a shot. As stated, the issue will be adhesive. I will try some velcro tabs.

Another option is PORON foam:

If you guys are desperate for some toe protection, get a pair goalie rollerblade cowlings, cut off the heel, and attach the cowling between the boot and the holder.

Do you know where to buy these, by themselves (without the rest of the goalie skate)?
