Differences in height of skate blade

Recommended Posts

Ive been skating on Bauer Vapor skates for a little over a year now. With my preference of frequent sharpenings, it seems the blades on these skates dont last long enough considering they are short to begin with. Why do the Bauer Vapors come with shorter blades compared to say, Easton skates? Are there pros and cons of having shorter vs taller blades? It seems like whenever I take sharp turns at high speeds, my holders are always tocuhing the ice now.

What brand/model of skate would be similar to the Vapor skate boot but have taller blades? Or could I just buy new blades that are taller than the Tuuk ls2 that are on there now?

The new RBZ skate holder is 4mm taller, not sure if the blades are taller though.

LS3 blades are 10% taller

Step Steel blades are 10% taller and made of higher quality steel, that is my recommendation. Do a search of Step Steel and read the thread.

So LS3 and Step Steel blades are the same height then?

Im going to get my skates sharpened today. I guess I can just buy the Step Steel and let them install it there. On Total Hockeys website, the Step Steel they have is named LS2. That is confusing. Is this the Step Steel you are talking about? And if so, should i go with the velocity or the other ones for 49.99?

On the site it is called LS2 since that is the holder they fit in.

I skate on 100/75 FBV

What is the difference between the Step Steel LS2 Velocity Steel Runners for 79.99 and the Step Steel LS2 Stainless Steel Runners for 49.99? IS it worth it to spend the extra $30? And will both of them fit on my stock Bauer Vapor x7.0 TUUK Lightspeed2 holders?

Does the Stepp steel have the same 9 radius and same profile as the LS2 runners?

Is it necessary for Total Hockey to cross grind a new blade before the 1st sharpen? What does Noicingsports do for a first sharpen?

Also if you click on the link and read the description, it says these are V-Steel. Why the different wording?

Search for the Step Steel thread and just read up. Everything you need to know is in there.

If you buy them at a local shop I'm sure they'll install for free, if not, its really really easy to do yourself, youtube has some tutorials.

Step is different shape than Bauers. It is not necessary to crossgring new steel, it wastes steel and can ruin the stock profile if not done perfectly. No-icing never crossgrinds. V-steel is same as Velocity steel. Both are highly polished with a chrome like finish. They hold edges longer than regular steel, so over time they will pay for themselves by needing less sharpenings. Necessary to have, nope. Nice to have if you have the $$$, yes.
