Hi Guys and Gals,

I have recently returned to hockey after a 16 year break. During my youth I always suffered with depth issues in my skates and now as an adult, I have been determined to find a pair of skates that fit. Using this forum I searched out info on the deepest fitting skates and I settled on the Bauer Flexlite Pro 4.0. I have been wearing these for about 9 months now but despite the baking and break in, my instep still pops out the top of them and I suffer lace bite at the ankle. I bought some buga pads and Ankle Protective Inserts which has helped releive the lace bite issues as well as experementing with many different lacing patterns and leaving one and two eyelets undone. Not really the ideal I was after, so I went ahead and bough some Graf 709's. These fit around the ankle much better and so far lace bite is not an issue due to thick felt tongue that is lacking on the Flexlites. However my instep still bulges out of these. I dont have access to custom skates and I was wondering is anyone knew of skate either current or historical that is deeper than either of these 2 skates?

I'm sure my options outside of custom is limited but if anyone has any recommendations I would be really grateful. Failing this, I might just have to invent an accessory that lifts the laces away from my foot but allowing them to be tightened.

Cheers,

Trent

Certain grafs

Ccm

&Bauer supreme and nexus lines seem to have a deeper fit.

I wouldn't go for a EE width for depth though, bc other things get bigger/wider that you may not want. Ex I had reeboks in we which are wider than 90% of the skates out there. After a little but of skating on them depth issues came up. I switched to a mission/supreme ee and it's not as wide but has more depth. Much better fit.

The 709's are going to be about as deep as you're going to get in my opinion, unless you went the route of custom 709's.

I also found that the Easton EQ50 was fairly deep in the instep, but I don't think it's as deep as a 709.

I am a EE width in the Bauer Flexlite and also got the W+ in the Grafs though they are a little tighter compared to the Flexlite. I have tried on the Nexus line as these are the only really deep skates on offer at my LHS and I found they weren't any deeper than the Flexlite or Grafs. How would I go about getting custom Grafs from Australia? I suppose I could create a plaster cast of my foot and send it to them?

Oh yes! Thanks guys, I think I can make this work. I have US postal address and freight forwarder so postage is no problem and the price! $800 is way less than I imagined for a fully customized boot! I was thinking $1500+

VH Hockey baby!!!
