Stamkos v. Burrows Curve

Recommended Posts

They may look similar, but the warrior curve lifts the puck up a hit more, but when I switched from stamkos to burrows it took me like one skate to get used to it.

Is the Burrows smaller than the Stamkos? On all of the blade pattern guides, Stamkos is always listed as Medium length, and Burrows is listed as Small length. I do not know how to read these though, as the sizing could be relative to what Bauer and Warrior think is Small/Medium.

I don't really know, I haven't looked at a stamkos I a while cause my last one broke, but I'm pretty sure that its a bit longer than the burrows.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently using a Toews curve, and it is great on snap and wrist shots, but I am having trouble doing anything on the backhand, and slappers could be improved. I messed around with a teammate's Burrows the other day, and still had pretty good power and accuracy on snap and wrist shots, but better slappers, and much better backhand shots and passes. I think the slightly flatter curve and more toward the heel is better for my playing and shooting style than the Toews. So I was looking for a Bauer equivalent to the Burrows (I LOVE my Nexus 1000, just want a different curve), and thought the Stamkos looked pretty close. I think I'll give it a try. I figure if it only took one game for Zjack38 to go from a Stamkos to a Burrows, it can't be that much different.

Thanks again for your insight.

Wait why don't you give warrior a try, and on total hockey I just saw that warrior had the burrows curve listed as similar to the backstrom curve

I had a Warrior Widow with a Kovalchuk curve, and it was a great stick. I still use it as my back-up. But I hate the Backstrom curve. Too much loft. The puck just sails on me. Looking for something a little more closed. Think the Stamkos fills that bill?

Well for me the stamkos always tended to stay low so yeah.

Of course, the Burrows worked well for me in practice, and it's been probably 3 years since I last used a Backstrom or clone. Maybe my shooting style has changed a bit. I should probably see if I can try a Backstrom out next time, just to see how it goes. Damn! Now you've given me something to think about. I hate thinking.

Ill take your word for it,but I swear I saw somewhere that the burrows was similar to backstrom

I'm not saying you didn't see it but that would not be even remotely close to correct. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet.

Now that I thin about it, I thinks that's why I got the burrows curve in my lhs the blade looked similar to the stamkos so I got it.

I use both stamkos and burrows:

Length of the blade is similar, height of the blade is similar, curve is similar, loft is similar, lie is similar, toe is similar. A difference in shot isn't because of the curve, it's because of other stick characteristics ie low kick, mid kick, flex, torque etc.

Main difference between the two is the rocker at the back of the blade, the stamkos has slightly more material (ie height of blade) in the first inch of the heel than a burrows. If your slapshots are chewing the heel out with a stamkos then a Burrows curve may help you.

Can post photos if you want.

A backstrom is totally different.

Thanks for the offer, Vet88, but pics won't be necessary. I went to my LHS last night, and saw what you are talking about. Didn't buy the stick yet, because the wife won't let me until there is a little more wear on my current stick, so if everyone could wish for me to get rough slash that breaks my stick, it would really help me out.

Seriously, though, it'll give me a chance to test some other guys sticks from around the rink and see which is working best for me. Both Bauer and Warrior are making some great sticks these days, and those new CCMs are looking pretty interesting, too. I'd love to give one of those a test drive.

Simply ... awesome ... what rink do you play at? I may know some people in your area if you are in Los Angeles or the Jersey Shore (Brick Hockey Club/ Wall Township Ice Rink area).
